2027 CATCH Resident Child Health Grants

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) offers competitive $2,000 Resident Grants for pediatric trainees to plan and/or initially implement a new community-based child health project in the United States, U.S. territories or Canada. The 2027 application period opened November 1, 2026 and closes January 19, 2027.

Who Can Apply

Eligible applicants are pediatric residents in U.S. (and territorial) or Canadian categorical or combined residency programs, with at least one further year of residency or a chief-resident year remaining when grant funding begins. Residents may apply individually or with other eligible resident collaborators. AAP national and chapter membership must be current before funds are disbursed. Current CATCH grantees are excluded; previous grantees may apply only after closing earlier awards.

Project Priorities and Eligible Costs

Proposals must describe a new community intervention or a new program derived from an existing initiative, meaningful external community partners, goals and measurable outcomes, community needs or pediatric disparities, and sustainability. Projects can include planning and pilot implementation; an implementation-only project should demonstrate that planning was already done. Eligible budget categories may include project staff, convenings, participant childcare or transportation, community educational materials, limited outreach supplies and eligible technology. The total award is $2,000, with published category ceilings (for example $1,600 personnel, $800 meetings, $1,000 participant expenses, $800 materials, $700 promotion and $700 technology); no single line may exceed the grant’s total.

Restrictions

Do not request payments for billable clinical encounters or pediatric clinician professional development, supplemental funding for previously awarded projects, research or clinical trials, medical equipment or pharmaceuticals (narrow oral-health-supply exception), one-time health fairs, construction, capital equipment, staff fringe benefits, indirect costs, or fiscal-agent fees. The official 2027 Call for Proposals does not set a universal matching-fund percentage. Certain AAP Councils and Sections sponsor targeted tracks with additional membership or presentation requirements; these are subpriorities of the same overall application, not automatically separate general applicant awards.

Required Application Materials and Deadline

Apply through the AAP CATCH online portal by January 19, 2027 at 11:59 p.m. Central Standard Time. Prepare a budget spreadsheet with formulas, a signed Resident Grant Mentor Form, and a letter of intent from an eligible fiscal agent who is distinct from the recipient. Identify a mentor, residency director and external community partners. Residents seeking their first request for feedback from an AAP facilitator or Resident Liaison should initiate that request by January 8, 2027. Awards are expected April 9, 2027; the 12-month grant starts June 1, 2027. Reporting is due after project completion. Review the funder’s AI-use disclosure and applicant-integrity requirements before submitting.
