WHAS Crusade for Children has announced its FY 2027-28 grant cycle for nonprofit agencies, schools, and hospitals serving children with identified health care, educational, and emotional wellness needs. The online application period opens October 5, 2026 and closes January 8, 2027 at 5:00 p.m. EST.
Eligibility and Purpose
Eligible applicants include nonprofit agencies, schools, and hospitals serving special-needs children from Kentucky and southern Indiana. New applicants must request an invitation to the online grant application through WHAS Crusade for Children. Grants are not made to individuals or families.
Allowable Grant Uses
Funding is limited to direct services and specific programs or equipment that directly benefit children with identified health care, educational, or emotional wellness needs. General operating support and administrative needs are not eligible. The current requirements also exclude overhead, public-awareness campaigns, employee benefits, equipment installation, extended warranties, taxes, shipping or freight, employee continuing education, travel and lodging, and personal items.
Application Support Materials
The current public requirements identify a current IRS Form 990, current independent audit or board-approved financial statements, current board member list, IRS determination letter, and current annual report as required support materials. Qualifying applicants are scheduled for a grant hearing with the Crusade Advisory Panel before final determinations are made.
Funding and Match Verification Hold
The current FY 2027-28 public requirements do not publish a universal per-applicant award minimum or maximum and do not state a universal match or cost-share requirement. Atlas will not infer either. Applicant-specific ORIGINAL outreach remains on verification hold until the FY 2027-28 application is live and the current application fields and any cycle-specific funding limits, matching rules, procurement requirements, or additional attachments are verified.
Atlas Analysis
Atlas Opportunity Score: 92/100. This is a strong Kentucky child-health and equipment opportunity because healthcare services and direct-benefit equipment are expressly eligible and the funder supports agencies, schools, and hospitals serving children. N9+ Fit: 68/100 conditional. A qualifying applicant-led pediatric use could be defensible where guided remote physical examinations, vitals, and telehealth-enabled clinical encounters directly serve eligible children and the application permits the specific equipment cost. QC Healthcare Fit: 78/100 conditional. No N9+ product or pricing language should appear in ordinary initial outreach.
Next Action
Re-verify the live FY 2027-28 application on or after October 5, 2026; confirm applicant geography and invitation status; verify any award limits, match or cost share, equipment procurement rules, and application-specific attachments; then evaluate eligible Kentucky nonprofit agencies, schools, and hospitals for organization-specific fit before any ORIGINAL outreach.
