Lois Lenski Covey Foundation — Spring 2027 Literacy Program Grants

The Lois Lenski Covey Foundation is accepting new Letters of Intent from November 1, 2026 through February 1, 2027 for its Spring 2027 Literacy Program Grants. The program supports repeated, skilled reading and writing instruction for economically or socially disadvantaged children through innovative literacy programs. Grant support may cover specific program expenses or general program support.

Applicant funding: The foundation states that its past literacy grants have ranged from $2,000 to $10,000. It does not publish a binding minimum or maximum for an individual Spring 2027 request, or a total current-cycle allocation. Applicants should not treat the historical range as a guaranteed award. Matching funds, reimbursement conditions, and a fixed budget ceiling are not specified on the controlling program page.

Who may apply

Eligible applicants are charitable 501(c)(3) organizations and other tax-exempt programs, including qualifying public libraries and schools, operating literacy programs in Greater Baltimore, the five boroughs of New York City, Sacramento, or the San Francisco Bay Area. The foundation does not make geographic exceptions. Programs should provide regular, sustained interaction with children and focus on reading or writing literacy. New and established programs may apply.

Important restrictions

Programs centered on book giveaways, one-time contact, purchasing books or software for classrooms or libraries, paying regular-school-day reading specialists, literacy software, particular book purchases, or literacy in unrelated subject areas are not eligible. This Literacy Program Grant is separate from the foundation’s bookmobile book-purchasing program.

How to apply

Send a one-page Letter of Intent by email to the regional trustee during the November 1 through February 1 window. Describe the literacy model, delivery, community served, and provide telephone contact and website if available. The foundation may invite an informational call or site visit and then request a two-to-four-page proposal. New-grantee decisions are announced in May. The official page does not specify a February 1 closing hour or time zone.

Review the official Literacy Program Grants guidelines and regional trustee contacts before applying. The current-cycle dates and requirements were verified November 1, 2026.
