Minnesota FY2027 Pediatric Primary Care Mental Health Training Grant
The Minnesota Department of Health, Office of Rural Health and Primary Care, is offering competitive grants to establish or expand pediatric mental health training programs based in outpatient primary care clinics in Minnesota. The FY2027 application window opened November 2, 2026 and is now accepting applications.
Applicant funding and deadline
Individual applicant awards: $50,000 to $400,000. MDH expects approximately three awards from $900,000 in total program funds. The $900,000 is a statewide funding pool, not an individual grant. Matching funds are not required. Eligible expenses are reimbursed after approval and subject to grant reporting and documentation.
Application deadline: Monday, January 25, 2027, at 4:30 p.m. Central Time. The grant period is expected to run from June 1, 2027, through May 31, 2029, subject to completed agreements.
Eligible applicants and training requirements
Eligible programs or proposed programs must be located in outpatient primary care clinics and train pediatric primary care providers working with multidisciplinary mental health teams. Programs must teach comprehensive clinical mental health assessment and potential pharmacological therapy, provide psychiatric consultation, emphasize longitudinal care, and develop partnerships with community mental health and other resources. Training can serve pediatric and family medicine residents, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and practicing primary care clinicians. Collaborations with higher education institutions are encouraged.
Recipients of a Health Professionals Clinical Training Expansion Grant cannot receive this grant for the same training program or department, and there must be no overlap in funded trainees or training activities.
Allowable expenses and restrictions
Allowable costs include planning and implementation of pediatric mental health training, eligible training site improvements, equipment and supplies, and clinical training support. Indirect costs may follow an applicable federally negotiated rate or, without such a rate, may not exceed 15% of direct costs. Fundraising, lobbying, political contributions, bad debt, finance charges, contingency funds, and most taxes are ineligible. Project expenses cannot begin before a fully executed agreement and authorization to start work.
Application requirements
Apply through the ORHPC Online Grants Portal. Applicants must provide organization and authorized representative information, program and community needs, partnerships, training and evaluation plan, detailed work plan, budget and budget narrative, financial audit documentation when applicable, a due diligence form when required, and the applicant conflict of interest disclosure. Provide an indirect cost rate agreement when claimed. Questions are due January 15, 2027, at 4:30 p.m. Central Time, and the informational webinar is November 18, 2026.
