The Minnesota Department of Agriculture is accepting FY2027 AGRI Protecting Livestock from Avian Influenza Grant applications to help Minnesota farmers and ranchers buy and install supplies or equipment that reduce the risk of avian influenza transmission on livestock operations.
Funding and match
Approximately $250,000 is available, with 25 to 35 grants expected. Applicants may request $500 to $10,000 per farming operation. A 20% cash match is required, and qualifying related time and labor costs may reduce the cash-match requirement by up to $2,000.
Eligibility
Applicants must be a Minnesota resident, a business entity authorized to farm in Minnesota, or a unit of Tribal government; be the principal operator of a Minnesota livestock operation; hold appropriate feedlot registration when applicable; normally sell at least $1,000 in livestock products annually; and satisfy the pre-award risk assessment.
Eligible project examples
Examples include isolation or quarantine pens, biosecurity signs, pest control, poultry-barn maintenance, electronic animal-identification systems and readers, truck washes, air filtration systems, Danish entry systems, wild-bird and vermin exclusion systems, security systems, personal protective equipment, and cleaning or disinfection equipment and tools. Payments are reimbursement-based, and eligible purchases must occur after the grant contract is fully signed.
Deadline and application
Applications are due November 17, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. Central Time. Applicants must review the current FY2027 Request for Proposals and submit through MDA’s online grant application system.
Program scope
This grant supports eligible Minnesota livestock operations with reimbursement for qualifying biosecurity equipment and supplies that help prevent avian influenza transmission. Applicants should consult the FY2027 official RFP to confirm allowable project costs, matching requirements, and submission procedures.
