The Minnesota Department of Agriculture is accepting FY2027 AGRI Livestock Investment Grant applications to help Minnesota livestock farmers and ranchers improve, update, and modernize eligible livestock-operation infrastructure and equipment.
Funding and reimbursement
Approximately $1.5 million is available for FY2027, with 60 to 80 grants expected. Awards range from $400 to $25,000. The program reimburses 50% of the first $20,000 in eligible expenses, then 25% of additional eligible expenses up to the $25,000 maximum grant.
Eligibility
Applicants must be a Minnesota resident, a business entity authorized to farm in Minnesota, or a unit of Tribal government; be the principal operator of a Minnesota livestock operation; hold appropriate feedlot registration when applicable; normally sell at least $1,000 in livestock products annually; and satisfy the pre-award risk assessment.
Eligible investments
Eligible projects include livestock-production buildings or facilities, pasture development such as lanes, watering systems and fencing, and equipment for livestock housing, confinement, feeding, and waste management. The grant does not pay for livestock, tractors, skid steers, general-purpose buildings, pasture or crop land, feed, seed, planters, combines, or debt refinancing. Purchases and services must occur after the grant contract is fully executed and reaches its start date.
Deadline and application
Applications are due November 17, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. Central Time. Applicants must review the current FY2027 Request for Proposals and submit through MDA’s online grant application system.
Atlas analysis
