Eligibility
Eligible applicants are Wisconsin K-12 school boards, operators of independent charter schools, governing bodies of private schools, and tribal schools. A qualifying critical incident resulting from human action must have occurred. Virtual schools, Department of Corrections schools, and juvenile detention centers are ineligible. Certain CCDEB, DPI, and DHS schools not listed in online DPI records should contact the Office of School Safety before applying.
Eligible Uses
Eligible costs may include emergency response, student and staff reunification, facility repair and cleanup, personnel not employed by the school who are directly related to psychological recovery such as psychologists, counselors, social workers and community service providers, communication assistance, security staffing, post-crisis consulting, physical improvements or equipment related to preventing similar events, and training reimbursement including adolescent mental health and threat assessment training. Costs must be new and directly related to the critical incident and may not supplant existing or budgeted state or local funds.
Application Requirements
Applications must be submitted through Wisconsin DOJ WebGrants. The announcement requires applicant personnel information, a project summary limited to 150 words, project details, budget information, compliance information, eligibility requirements and evidence of need. Applicants should confirm current remaining funds and incident eligibility with the Office of School Safety before preparing a submission.
