Opportunity Overview
The Idaho INBRE University of Idaho Seed Grant Program supports small scale biomedical and behavioral research led by University of Idaho faculty with research appointments.
Funding and Deadline
Applicants may request up to $75,000 in direct costs for one year. Idaho INBRE anticipates three to five awards, depending on funding requests and the number of proposals submitted. Awards are contingent on successful renewal of the University of Idaho parent INBRE 5 grant, NIH appropriations, and meritorious applications. Applications are due September 22, 2026. The controlling FOA does not publish a clock time or time zone, so Atlas does not infer one.
Eligible Project Leaders
Eligible project leaders are University of Idaho faculty with research appointments. Preference is given to early stage investigators. The project leader may not be the project investigator or equivalent of an active NIH research grant at the time of award, including CTR or COBRE funding. Only one application may be submitted per application cycle. Clinical trials research is not allowed.
Application Requirements
The application requires Specific Aims, a four page Research Strategy organized around Significance, Innovation, Approach, and Impact, an NIH SciENcv biosketch, Project Summary, and a detailed budget and justification. The proposal must explain how the project addresses human health and provides intensive competitive research experience for students. At least one undergraduate student must be included. A scientific mentor is recommended but not required for new or early stage investigators. Applications are submitted through the Idaho INBRE SurveyMonkey application. If selected, awardees must upload the project in VERAS and complete the NIH Data Management Plan and applicable compliance protocols.
Allowable Costs and Match
Allowable costs include operating expenses, domestic travel, equipment, and appropriate F&A. The FOA does not state a separate mandatory applicant cost share.
Atlas Fit Analysis
Atlas Opportunity Score: 84/100. The program has meaningful biomedical research alignment, an established institutional applicant pool, and equipment allowability. N9+ Fit Score: 30/100, conditional. The Nonagon N9+ device and platform should be considered only when a University of Idaho faculty research aim specifically requires its measurements, guided remote examination capabilities, or related digital health research functions. Atlas does not treat equipment allowability alone as sufficient fit, and the FOA prohibits clinical trials.
Direct Dr. Miltie Review
Dr. Miltie, LLC is not an eligible direct applicant. Any role would need to be an institution approved vendor or research collaboration tied to an eligible University of Idaho faculty project and permitted by university research and procurement rules.
