Required next actionRoute candidate- and institution-specific screening to qualified academic health, geriatrics, aging-research, and higher-education organizations. Before advancing an application, independently substantiate the K76 candidate's eligibility, full-time academic appointment, mentor team, protected effort, prior research support, registrations, and institutional research environment, then prepare for the November 10, 2026 new-application deadline or the November 12, 2026 resubmission deadline as applicable.

Broad Eligibility

Broad U.S. organizational eligibility includes IHEs, nonprofits, small businesses, other for-profits, governments, Tribal entities, and other listed domestic organizations, but candidate-level K76 requirements control. Candidate must meet ESI, clinical-doctorate, citizenship/permanent-resident, full-time academic appointment, at least 75% protected effort, mentoring, prior research-support/leadership, and institutional research-environment requirements. Foreign organizations/components are not eligible.

Atlas Analysis

Strong national aging-research and clinician-scientist career-development relevance, but this is an individual mentored K76 pathway rather than a general institutional or technology program. Treat as candidate-specific: the proposed candidate must satisfy the program's early-stage investigator, clinical doctorate, appointment, protected-effort, mentoring, prior research-support and leadership, citizenship or permanent-residency, and institutional environment requirements.

Opportunity: NIH/NIA PAR-27-112, Paul B. Beeson Emerging Leaders Career Development Award in Aging (K76 Clinical Trial Not Allowed).

Deadline: The next New application due date is November 10, 2026 at 5:00 PM local time of the applicant organization. The next Renewal/Resubmission/Revision due date, as allowed, is November 12, 2026 at 5:00 PM local time. Later standard cycles continue through 2028 under the NOFO.

Funding: Award budgets consist of salary and research-development support within an overall direct-cost limit of $225,000 per year. The project period may not exceed five years. F&A costs are reimbursed at 8% of modified total direct costs. Cost sharing is not required.

Purpose: The Beeson K76 develops early-stage clinician-scientists as research and academic leaders in aging and geriatrics. It supports clinically relevant basic, translational, clinical, behavioral, social-science, and patient-oriented aging research while providing sustained protected time, mentoring, career development, and leadership development. This NOFO does not support an applicant leading an independent clinical trial.

Eligibility: Eligible U.S. applicant organizations include higher education institutions, nonprofits, small businesses, other for-profit organizations, state and local governments, Tribal entities, and other listed domestic organizations. Foreign organizations and foreign components are not eligible. Candidate-level requirements are decisive: the candidate must have Early-Stage Investigator status at submission, generally have prior faculty-level competitively awarded research support or equivalent evidence of an independent research line, hold a qualifying clinical doctoral degree, satisfy U.S. citizenship/national/permanent-resident requirements by award, have a full-time appointment at an academic institution by award, commit at least 75% professional effort to the career-development program, identify an established aging-research mentor or mentoring team, and apply from an institution with a strong research and career-development environment.

Submission: Applications must follow NIH Career Development (K) instructions and may be submitted through NIH ASSIST, an institutional system-to-system solution through Grants.gov, or Grants.gov Workspace, with tracking in eRA Commons. Required organizational registrations must be active before submission, and the PD/PI must have an eRA Commons account linked to ORCID.

Atlas disposition: Partner-Led / Candidate-Specific. Do not treat Dr. Miltie as a submission-ready direct applicant merely because for-profit organizations appear in the organizational eligibility list. The candidate-specific academic appointment, mentoring, protected-time, prior research-support, leadership, and institutional research-environment requirements must all be independently substantiated. Route candidate and institution matching to applicable state academic-health, geriatrics, aging-research, and higher-education pathways.
