Closed for new 2026-27 applications. The New York State Education Department’s current funding page still lists September 8, 2026 as the final extended application deadline. Because both the electronic copy and mailed original had to satisfy that date, Atlas now classifies this cycle as Expired rather than leaving it in the active opportunity inventory.
Opportunity Overview
The 2026-2027 My Brother’s Keeper Fellows Program supports rising 12th-grade students with leadership, mentoring, fellowship and service-project experience through approved New York State My Brother’s Keeper Community Networks.
Funding and Final Deadline
NYSED expects up to $750,000 statewide for July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027, subject to legislative appropriation. Each participating MBK Community receives an allocation of $5,950 per Fellow for the grant year. NYSED extended the deadline on August 27 to September 8, 2026. The complete application had to be both emailed and postmarked by that date; the official page did not publish a clock-time cutoff.
Who Was Eligible
Only approved New York State My Brother’s Keeper Community Networks that were approved by NYSED as of April 1, 2026 were eligible. The public school district partner had to serve as the applicant and fiscal agent. The MBK Community also had to have the required partnership structure involving the mayor or equivalent municipal official, the school district superintendent and at least one qualifying postsecondary institution, local business or community-based organization.
Mandatory MOA
Applications had to include a signed Memorandum of Agreement among the required partners. NYSED states that applications without the required signed MOA would not be reviewed and that letters of support do not replace partner signatures.
Student Model
Participating students are rising 12th graders enrolled in a funded MBK Community, with an emphasis on boys and young men of color and all students. Fellows receive mentors employed by participating partners, take part in leadership and fellowship experiences, develop a service project tied to an MBK milestone, contribute to the statewide MBK Fellows Workgroup and are expected to participate in the annual statewide MBK Symposium with their mentors.
Atlas Analysis
Atlas Opportunity Score: 84/100. This remains useful historical planning intelligence for eligible MBK Community Networks because it documents the program structure, per-Fellow allocation and partnership requirements. It is no longer actionable as a new 2026-27 application.
N9+ Direct Vendor Fit: 0/100. This program funds leadership, mentoring, fellowship and student service-project activity. It does not establish a connected physical-exam, telehealth, clinical-equipment or QC Healthcare procurement pathway.
Next Action
Do not submit a new 2026-27 application. Monitor NYSED for the next Fellows funding cycle or a formal reopening. Existing awardees should use NYSED’s current programmatic and fiscal reporting guidance for implementation and closeout rather than the expired application instructions.
