Atlas Analysis

The current LCBP Educator Mini-Grant offers up to $1,000 per qualifying school in the Lake Champlain watershed, subject to remaining funds. The 2026 grant application confirms rolling acceptance without a calendar deadline and allows only one grant per school. Qualifying educators must meet the approved watershed-teaching, CBEI training or World Water Day participation criteria. Funds cover durable classroom materials that support watershed or water-quality learning and exclude food, transportation and entrance fees. The school administrator signs, the school supplies W-9 documentation, and purchases must occur after grant approval. Reimbursement is by receipts submitted after purchase.

The Patrick Leahy Lake Champlain Basin Program (LCBP) offers ongoing Educator Mini-Grants so qualifying teachers at schools within the Lake Champlain Basin can purchase durable educational materials to teach students about the Lake Champlain watershed, its streams, rivers, water quality and ecosystems. Individual awards may be up to $1,000 per SCHOOL; the overall program funding pool is not published.

An educator may apply on behalf of a school physically located in the basin. The official application requires an eligible teaching connection: prior participation in the Champlain Basin Education Initiative Watershed for Every Classroom course, student entries in the CBEI World Water Day program, OR current teaching about the Lake Champlain watershed as described in the application. Only one grant will be awarded per school in this opportunity. A school administrator must sign the application and provide the school W-9.

Eligible expenses are durable indoor or outdoor classroom tools that strengthen watershed learning, such as field guides, rubber boots or waders, stream invertebrate nets and collection trays, field lenses, binoculars, microscopes and watershed education posters. Funds cannot cover food, transportation or entrance fees. Successful applicants must receive grant approval BEFORE purchasing materials. This is reimbursement funding through LCBP/NEIWPCC after the school provides original receipts; checks are issued to the school or school district. Purchases made before the award approval date are not reimbursed.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis while funding remains, with no fixed calendar deadline or time zone. The application requests educator and school contact details, grade level, teaching rationale, materials and estimated costs, applicant and administrator signatures, and the school W-9. The official form permits submitting requests by email to eandogrants@lcbp.org, with the school name and Mini-Grant Request in the subject. After a funded purchase, submit the separate reimbursement form and receipts within 30 days.
