National Dance Project Travel Fund — Rolling Awards
The New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) continues to offer the National Dance Project (NDP) Travel Fund to help U.S.-based arts presenters, curators, residency directors, related programming staff and currently supported NDP artists develop potential tours of current NDP-supported projects. NEFA states that its NDP Production Grant made its final new cohort in September 2026, but that the NDP Travel Fund remains available for touring and sharing existing eligible projects. This is a grant to support eligible travel costs, not a vendor procurement.
Funding Available to an Applicant
NEFA can reimburse up to $500 in eligible travel expenses, based on a funder-reviewed budget. Eligible costs may include mileage, economy transportation, meals, lodging, tickets to see qualifying dance performances, and appropriate conference or showcase registration. There is no officially published general cash-match percentage or overall current program funding pool. Payment generally follows acceptance of the required travel report; discuss potential partial advances with NEFA before departure.
Eligibility and Project Fit
Eligible U.S.-based curators, presenters, residency directors and related staff may travel to view a currently supported NDP work or bring an NDP artist to their community for advance touring discussions. Artists with NDP-supported work in its creation or touring period may request qualifying site-visit or advance-tour planning travel. Only one individual or organization, and one person per organization, may apply for the same trip. Grant payments may go to qualifying individuals, 501(c)(3) organizations or fiscal sponsors. The program is strictly tied to current NDP projects; it is not unrestricted national dance-program funding. NEFA notes a limit of four travel grants per supported project; some website references to the previous June 2025–May 2026 fiscal year should be reconfirmed with the funder for travel taking place now.
Rolling Deadline and Requirements
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. Contact NEFA’s NDP grants manager before applying. The application must be received at least 40 days before departure; funding decisions typically follow within four weeks of receipt. Recipients must submit an online travel report within 40 days after completing travel, and payment is generally made when NEFA approves that report.
Restrictions
Travel involving projects without current NDP Production Grant support is ineligible, as is travel already funded by other NEFA travel grants. The program does not support teaching, routine residency work, personal travel, extra creation or development costs, costs already covered by NDP Presentation Grants, or ordinarily international trips and January New York APAP/festival travel. Contact NEFA about any formally available exception rather than assuming one. Applicants should ensure proposed activities involve genuine interactions with participating NDP artists and advance touring prospects.
Application Source
Review the official NEFA National Dance Project Travel Fund instructions, verify that the specific artist/project is eligible, and contact the named NDP program manager before beginning an application. Information checked against NEFA’s current official program page on November 6, 2026. If funder guidance about the current fiscal year, available funding or program restrictions changes, the official funder controls.
