The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) Research Infrastructure program is accepting applications for capital investments in shared scientific infrastructure at eligible Massachusetts nonprofit research institutions.
Funding: $1.5 million to $5 million over a 1-3 year project period. Awards are reimbursement-based after execution of a grant agreement. Deadline: November 6, 2026 at 1 p.m. EST, as published by MLSC.
Eligible applicants: Massachusetts nonprofit institutions eligible to receive Commonwealth capital funding, including colleges and universities, academic medical centers, independent research institutions, nonprofit accelerators/incubators, and other nonprofit research organizations. Institutions that are exclusively healthcare providers and requests for equipment associated with standard healthcare delivery are not eligible.
Tracks: Shared Core Facility Resource; Incubator / Accelerator; Clinical Trial Resource. Allowable capital expenses include scientific research equipment, hardware and software, equipment service contracts purchased at the time of acquisition, and construction or renovation related to the proposed infrastructure. Direct labor, overhead/indirect costs, operating expenses, monthly subscriptions/cloud storage, software development, legal expenses, travel and similar non-capital costs are not eligible.
MLSC does not state a mandatory match on the published eligibility page. Strong institutional financial and in-kind contributions are prioritized. Applications require a two-page biosketch, an allowable-cost budget, vendor quotes for equipment over $100,000, specified letters of use, commitment letters for listed funding contributions, and an authorized signature. Applications are submitted online through the MLSC Submittable portal.
Atlas Opportunity Score: 90/100. N9+ Fit: 50/100. The Nonagon N9+ may have a legitimate role only as one component of a larger shared clinical-trial or research infrastructure proposal where remote physical examination, guided examinations, vitals, and telehealth-enabled encounters support the proposed research resource and meet MLSC capital and shared-access rules. Atlas is not treating N9+ as a stand-alone fit for an award of this scale.
Dr. Miltie direct-applicant fit: 0/100 because the applicant must be an eligible Massachusetts nonprofit institution. A vendor/equipment role may be possible through an eligible applicant if the N9+ is legitimately incorporated into the funded shared resource.
