Maryland FY2027 Computer Science Education Grant
The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) is accepting applications from Maryland local education agencies (LEAs) to develop and expand high-quality K–12 computer science education. Activities may take place during the school day or in eligible extracurricular programs.
Applicant funding
Eligible LEAs may request up to $2,000 per high school. The state lists $560,000 in overall program funding and anticipates 24 awards. The $560,000 figure is the total program pool, not a single LEA’s grant amount. The number of high schools proposed by each LEA determines the applicable request amount.
Deadline and eligibility
Applications are due Friday, December 11, 2026, no later than 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The program is open to Maryland LEAs. Schools should coordinate through their LEA; independent nonprofits or commercial vendors are not identified as direct applicants. The grant performance period is July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027; eligible pre-award costs within that period are permitted.
Allowable and restricted expenses
Permitted expenses include computer science classroom hardware and peripherals, software and learning tools, curriculum development or approved instructional resources, and educator professional development directly tied to computer science instruction. The guidance excludes staff salaries and stipends, capital construction or renovations, general indirect administration unless expressly authorized, unrelated equipment or travel, food, entertainment, and gifts or incentives. No universal mandatory matching percentage is stated in the reviewed guidance; applicants should confirm any in-kind budgeting questions with MSDE.
Application process
Review the official Grant Information Guide and Application for Participation on MSDE’s grant page. Prepare the signed proposal cover page, one-page abstract, project-needs and measurable-goals narrative, itemized budget and signed C-1-25 budget form, recipient assurances, and LEA safety/privacy policy documentation. Convert the completed submission to a PDF and email it by the deadline to occpgrants.msde@maryland.gov. The Grant Information Guide specifies the subject line Maryland Computer Science Education Grant Application; the shorter wording on the summary webpage differs, so the signed guide should control.
The grant summary webpage states the deadline in ET, while the PDF cover labels the December deadline EDT; December 11 is in Eastern Standard Time. Applicants should use the 5 p.m. local Eastern cutoff. The official opportunity page and 22-page Grant Information Guide were checked October 27, 2026. This is a competitive applicant-assistance grant, not a vendor procurement contract.
