Verified September 23, 2026. The Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne is accepting 2026 Engage Grant applications for qualifying first-time or new-to-foundation charitable applicants serving Allen County.
Funding and current timing
Engage Grants provide up to $3,000 for operational support or specific projects and programs. The current guidelines state that the program is open March through October, requests are reviewed monthly, and applications are accepted and evaluated on a first-come, first-served basis until the calendar-year funding is gone. The reviewed public materials do not publish an exact final October submission date, clock time, or time zone, so Atlas does not infer one.
Eligibility
The program is designed as a low-barrier entry point for organizations new to the Community Foundation. Applicants may be 501(c)(3) nonprofits or community/neighborhood groups with a demonstrable charitable purpose; fiscal sponsorship is acceptable. At least 50% of people served must be in Allen County and/or the applicant must provide a unique service to the county. The guidelines also prohibit event sponsorship requests and require compliance with the Foundation’s religious-programming restrictions.
The guidelines describe Engage Grants as intended for organizations that have never received a grant from the Community Foundation and separately state that a prior Engage recipient is no longer considered new to the program. Applicant-specific prior funding history should therefore be verified in the live portal before outreach or package production.
Application requirements
The application asks for the project, program, or organization description and use of funds; qualifications and capacity; duplication of services; impact; number of people affected; timeline; sustainability; and feasibility. A project, program, or organization budget must be uploaded in Excel format and include projected and secured income and expenses. The guidelines state that an audit is not required.
Restrictions and health relevance
Engage Grants do not fund medical or academic research, operational deficits, event sponsorships, fundraising events, annual funds, lobbying, partisan political activity, or other noncharitable uses identified in the guidelines. Operational support is otherwise allowed for qualifying new-to-foundation organizations. Because the program is broad and does not publish a dedicated healthcare or technology cost category, any healthcare equipment, digital-health, telehealth, vendor, or subcontractor expense must be verified for the specific applicant and request before budgeting.
Atlas assessment
Atlas Opportunity Score: 83/100. N9+ Fit: 18/100 conditional. QC Healthcare Fit: 22/100 conditional. The program can support small Allen County charitable health or human-services organizations, but the $3,000 ceiling and lack of express technology/equipment guidance materially limit a defensible N9+ or QC Healthcare pathway. Ordinary INITIAL OUTREACH must not introduce or sell N9+.
Submission and outreach controls
Applications are submitted through the Community Foundation’s online grants portal. No universal match or cost-share requirement was identified in the reviewed June 2026 guidelines. Before ORIGINAL outreach, verify that the live portal still accepts the relevant request, the applicant is genuinely new to the Community Foundation as required, Allen County service eligibility is established, the recipient is a verified business Contact, Email_Opt_Out is not true, there is no authoritative permanent hard bounce, and Account/Contact/Deal/Atlas_Email_Queue/authoritative send-history deduplication is clear.
