Opportunity Overview
The State Charter Schools Commission of Georgia (SCSC) is accepting Fall 2026 applications for CSP SE Subgrants for New, Replication, & Expansion Schools. The program supports Georgia-authorized charter schools opening new schools, replicating high-quality charter schools, or expanding high-quality charter schools.
Current Deadline
Authoritative deadline conflict: the live SCSC Grant Opportunities page and FindAGaCharter grant page state that applications are due October 1, 2026 at 12:00 noon ET. However, the current downloadable SCSC RFA dated September 15, 2026 visually shows September 24, 2026 in its Key Information & Dates table. The RFA also states that dates are subject to change, but the official materials do not contain a clearly labeled amendment resolving this discrepancy.
Atlas fail-closed control: do not select either deadline for applicant action, ORIGINAL outreach, or final submission planning until SCSC authoritatively clarifies which deadline controls. Continue non-lifecycle research and application-readiness work only.
Funding
New and replication charter schools may receive up to $2,000,000 per school, subject to fund availability. The RFA identifies a $100,000 pre-opening supplement, a $1,000,000 implementation base, a $300,000 rural/priority-community supplement, and a $600,000 high-school supplement. Charter-school expansion awards may reach $1,000,000, with a $500,000 implementation base and possible rural/priority-community and high-school supplements.
Eligibility
Only authorized schools meeting the federal definition of a charter school are eligible. Applicants must have an approved charter from a Georgia authorizer and must provide evidence of nonprofit status. Replication and expansion applicants must also satisfy the RFA’s high-quality-school and performance requirements.
Allowable Use and Grant Term
Subgrants have a 36-month term. Funding supports approved planning, pre-opening, implementation, replication, and expansion activities consistent with federal CSP rules, the SCSC RFA, and the approved budget. The RFA notes an approved waiver permitting certain recurring, sustained operational costs, subject to program rules and allowability.
Current Applicant Candidates
SCSC approved four new start-up charter schools on July 29, 2026 for expected Fall 2027 openings: Atlantic Connections Academy, Middle Georgia Preparatory Academy, Prestige Preparatory School, and Spalding Academy for Innovation and Learning. That authorization makes each a legitimate candidate for applicant-specific CSP review, but Atlas must still verify the applying nonprofit entity, prior CSP subgrant history, required community-need evidence, and all CRM/queue/send-history gates before ORIGINAL outreach.
Atlas Analysis
Atlas Opportunity Score: 93/100. This is a major Georgia school-startup and expansion opportunity with significant applicant-specific funding and a short application window.
N9+ Fit: 20/100, conditional; QC Healthcare Fit: 0/100. This is fundamentally a charter-school development grant rather than a healthcare-equipment program. Any healthcare or school-health technology fit would have to be applicant-led, clearly tied to the approved charter-school plan, allowable under the CSP cost rules, and compliant with federal procurement requirements. Ordinary initial outreach must focus on the grant opportunity and grant-preparation assistance and must not introduce N9+.
Application Readiness and Scoring
The current RFA scores applications on community need (30 points), growth mindset (10), commitment (15), readiness (15), and budget quality/financial sustainability (30), for 100 base points. Priority-community location and an approved high-school grade band can each add 10 bonus points; qualifying collaboration with a local public school or district can add 5. Applicants must score at least 70 before bonus points are considered and at least 80 for subgrant consideration.
Portal readiness includes the approved charter contract or expansion documentation, nonprofit entity information, authorizer notification letter, recruitment and enrollment policies, retention and discipline policy, special-education/English-learner service documentation, transportation plan, complete line-item budget and narrative, and the required federal CSP assurances. Replication and expansion applicants also need evidence that they meet the federal high-quality-charter-school standard, prior-CSP-history controls, an approved budget with board minutes, and Open Meetings/Open Records compliance documentation.
