North Bay Watershed Association FY2026-2027 Small Grants
The North Bay Watershed Association (NBWA) offers competitive small grants for environmental stewardship, watershed protection and water-resource education benefiting the North Bay watershed region of California. Applications are accepted from November 1, 2026 through January 31, 2027.
Applicant awards and deadline
Individual applicant award request: up to $15,000. The $100,000 funding figure is the combined program pool, not an individual award. Applications are due January 31, 2027. The official program instructions do not state an exact closing hour or time zone; applicants should confirm any portal cutoff with NBWA.
Eligibility and geographic requirements
Eligible recipients include 501(c)(3) nonprofits, municipalities, tribes, and public or private educational institutions. Supported activities must benefit people and watersheds in the NBWA region, including eastern Marin County, southern Sonoma County, Napa County, and portions of Solano County draining toward San Pablo Bay. Only one small-grant application per person or organization is permitted per cycle. Family members of NBWA Board members are ineligible under the program’s published conflict rule.
Fundable activities and restrictions
Projects may include environmental and watershed stewardship, water-resource research, technical assistance, training, community services, or development and implementation of watershed education. Projects must have defined objectives and regional benefits. Land purchases and associated appraisal costs are not eligible. Awards are discretionary and may be less than the amount requested. If a project needs funding beyond the NBWA request, identify other sources and whether they are secured. No universal mandatory matching percentage is specified in the current official program guidelines.
Payment and performance conditions
Selected awardees must complete an NBWA Grant Awardee Summary Agreement and provide a W-9. Award payments are made as a single lump sum following completion of the agreement and documentation; NBWA states that reimbursement request forms are no longer required. Projects must be completed within 18 months of grant-check issuance. Awardees must provide progress reports every six months and submit a final project closeout report. Grant decisions are expected in March 2027, with subsequent contracting and payment dates estimated rather than guaranteed.
How to apply
Submit the free application through the official NBWA online small-grant application form. Prepare applicant and organization details, location and beneficiaries, a concise project summary, proposed activities, timeline and readiness, detailed request and budget, and one to three measurable deliverables. The application includes short-answer word limits of approximately 100 to 200 words and acknowledgments of grant and reporting conditions. NBWA provides accommodation or alternative-submission assistance through its program contact information. The individual watershed-education scholarship is a separate program and is not included in this applicant-grant listing.
