Current Fall 2026 Timeline
The current application period opened September 1, 2026. The Foundation publishes an October 8, 2026 Letter of Inquiry deadline and an October 15, 2026 application close. Its application page states that all grant applications must be submitted no later than 5:00 PM Central Time.

Who Can Apply
Applicants must be registered 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofits, must seek funding from multiple sources, and must serve Texas. The Foundation requires three years of Form 990 tax returns, which can make very new organizations ineligible or not yet ready. Only one application per Tax ID Number in a 12-month period is allowed.
Critical 2026 Geographic Restrictions
Beginning in 2026, the Foundation states that it will fund only nonprofits serving Texas and will not accept ordinary applications from a published list of excluded counties concentrated around major metropolitan areas. The excluded counties are Atascosa, Austin, Bastrop, Bexar, Brazoria, Caldwell, Chambers, Collin, Comal, Dallas, Denton, El Paso, Ellis, Fort Bend, Galveston, Guadalupe, Harris, Hays, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Kendall, Liberty, Medina, Montgomery, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, Travis, Waller, Williamson, and Wilson. Previously funded organizations outside Texas or in an excluded county may contact the Foundation’s Grant Director about the stated exception pathway.
Healthcare and Education Fit
The Foundation’s public materials identify health and human services as a funding area and show a history of supporting healthcare, rehabilitation, hospice, hospital-foundation and other health-related organizations. For current-cycle planning, applicants should make the healthcare or human-services need, rural/community benefit, measurable outcomes and sustainability explicit rather than relying on historical awards as a guarantee of current funding.
The Foundation’s current eligibility rules state that educational grants are limited to colleges and universities and are not made to K-12 schools. Atlas therefore does not present this as a direct school-district or K-12 funding opportunity.
Application Readiness Controls
Use the organization’s exact legal name and Tax ID from the IRS determination letter, keep TIN information consistent across documents, include any DBA as instructed, prepare the required three years of Form 990 returns, and confirm that any prior Foundation progress and final reports have been submitted. The Foundation accepts applications through its online system only and does not accept paper applications or emailed attachments.
The Foundation warns that submissions within 72 hours of the deadline may leave insufficient time to correct errors or request clarification, so applicants should submit well before the final cutoff.
