Washington WSDOT Tribal Transit Mobility Grant
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is accepting applications for the 2027–2029 Tribal Transit Mobility Grant, a Washington-specific program supporting the transportation needs of tribal communities.
Deadline
Applications are due September 17, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. WSDOT does not state a time zone on the current public program page, so Atlas does not infer one. Applications are submitted through WSDOT’s Grants Management System (GMS). Applicants should ensure GMS access and registration are complete before submission.
Funding
The program is supported 100% by state funding through Washington’s Climate Commitment Act. WSDOT states that Tribal Transit Mobility funding is identified at up to $10 million per biennium under Move Ahead Washington. Approximately $9 million was made available for the 2025–2027 biennium; the Legislature will determine the final funding level for the 2027–2029 biennium during the 2027 legislative session.
Eligible applicants
Eligible applicants are the 29 federally recognized tribes in Washington and federally recognized tribes in neighboring Idaho and Oregon that provide transit service to and from Washington.
Eligible projects
Eligible transit-related activities include vehicles, equipment, technology and bus shelters; planning and feasibility work; operating assistance for public transit and paratransit/special-needs transportation; mobility management; and qualifying small construction projects. The controlling WSDOT materials should be reviewed for project-specific conditions and limits.
Match and evaluation
No match is required. WSDOT evaluates projects on factors including improvement to public transportation, demonstrated community need and input, measurable performance, connections with other transportation systems, feasibility, applicant experience and financial capacity.
Atlas assessment
Atlas Opportunity Score: 68/100. The opportunity is relevant to Washington tribal health access because it can support transportation for elders, people with disabilities and special-needs riders, including mobility to health and community services. Prior WSDOT awards include tribal elder/disability transportation and a Jamestown S’Klallam project involving replacement vans serving the Jamestown Healing Clinic.
N9+ Fit Score: 0/100. This is a transportation grant. References to eligible technology are transit-related and should not be interpreted as authorization for clinical examination technology. Atlas should not force an N9+ or QC Healthcare fit.
Dr. Miltie direct applicant path: Not eligible. Direct applicants must be federally recognized tribes meeting the geographic/service criteria. Any Dr. Miltie role would have to be a legitimate applicant-selected vendor or partner allowed by the controlling grant rules.
WSDOT staff technical assistance is available through September 16, 2026. Contact: PTDGrants@wsdot.wa.gov.
