Issuer: Legacy Environmental Education Grant Program
Geography: Alabama statewide.
Deadline: Applications must be received by 6:00 p.m. on or before October 1, 2026. The current controlling page does not state a time zone.
Funding: Up to $2,500 per grant request. Requests above $2,500 will not be considered.
Eligibility: Public and private nonprofit organizations in Alabama. Applicants must provide proof of tax-exempt status; public schools are exempt from submitting an IRS determination letter because their status is through their school systems. Groups without tax-exempt status may apply through an eligible nonprofit fiscal sponsor.
Purpose: Environmental education projects that help create environmentally responsible citizens. Evaluation considers feasibility and sustainability, audience, underserved reach, partnerships, replication potential, scope of work, schedule, cost-effective itemized budget, measurement and evaluation, and Legacy recognition.
Generally not funded: General operating expenses, building campaigns, student tuition, travel, conferences, personnel salaries or stipends, and cash prizes.
Project period: January through September 2027. Final reports are due September 1, 2027. Funds are distributed in March, June, and September as receipts and supporting documentation are submitted and reviewed.
Atlas assessment: Atlas Opportunity Score 42/100; N9+ Fit 0/100. This is a legitimate Alabama school/nonprofit education funding source but has no credible clinical, telehealth, remote-exam, or healthcare-device use case and a maximum award of only $2,500.
Submission: Online grant application. The only attachment requested is proof of tax-exempt status/IRS determination letter, except for public schools. Legacy recognition, including visible signage with both Legacy logos at sponsored projects, is required.
