FY 2027 CPRIT Clinical Trials Network Funding
The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) is accepting applications under RFA R-27.2-CTNA, Clinical Trials Network Award. The program is designed to expand access to phase 2 and selected phase 3 cancer therapeutic trials by funding Texas Lead Institutions to build and operate networks with community-based oncology care facilities. Applications open in CPRIT’s new Grants Management Platform on September 16, 2026 at 7:00 AM Central Time and are due November 18, 2026 at 5:00 PM Central Time.
Funding
Applicants may request up to $500,000 in total costs per year for up to five years, for a maximum potential award of $2.5 million. Allowable costs include personnel salary and fringe benefits, research supplies, equipment, clinical trials management system licensing fees, central IRB review, and personnel travel between network sites. State law limits indirect costs to 5% of the total award. Diagnostic or interventional subject-participation procedures beyond routine standard of care are not appropriate award costs and must be supported by other mechanisms, although certain such costs may count toward the required matching funds.
Who Can Apply
The Lead Institution and Network Affiliates must be Texas-based institutions, organizations, physician groups, or other entities that conduct clinical research. A public or private company operating as a clinical research organization is not eligible. The Contact Principal Investigator must hold an MD or DO and be a full-time Texas resident when the application is submitted and throughout the grant period. An entity may submit only one application as Lead Institution under this RFA, and a Network Affiliate may appear on only one application.
Program Requirements
The Lead Institution must provide participating Network Affiliates access to phase 2 and selected phase 3 therapeutic cancer trials, use a common institutional review board, and share a web-based clinical trials management support system. Network Affiliates must identify a physician champion, demonstrate onsite research-pharmacy capability, identify clinical research personnel, and support biosample processing and storage. Surgical, radiation, imaging, behavioral, and prevention trials are not appropriate for this mechanism.
Required Available Funds
Before CPRIT disburses grant funds, the recipient must demonstrate funds equal to one-half of the CPRIT funding dedicated to the research. This demonstration is required at award-contract execution and annually thereafter, not at application submission. Depending on applicant type, qualifying sources can include specified federal, industry, philanthropic, institutional, and non-research patient-care funds, subject to CPRIT documentation rules.

The applicant requirements and clinical-trials infrastructure burden are significant.
N9+ Fit Score: 30/100, conditional. Equipment and virtual clinical collaboration are allowable, but this award is centered on therapeutic cancer clinical-trial networks. N9+ should not be positioned as a stand-alone project driver, and diagnostic or interventional trial procedures beyond routine standard of care are not eligible award costs.
QC Healthcare Fit: 20/100, conditional. Clinical expertise may support an applicant-led network, but the mechanism requires a qualifying Texas clinical-research Lead Institution, MD or DO PI, Network Affiliates, research infrastructure, and mandatory available funds. This is not a direct Dr. Miltie application path.
