2026-2027 NNLM Region 3 Professional Development Award
The Network of the National Library of Medicine (NNLM), Region 3, invites applicant-facing professional-development funding proposals to strengthen health-information access, health literacy, and workforce skills. These cost-reimbursement awards support conferences, seminars, workshops, and non-degree training in biomedical information, data science, and related health information services. The administering Regional Medical Library is at the University of North Texas Health Science Center.
Applicant award and current deadline
Maximum individual award: $2,000. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until funds are exhausted or March 1, 2027, at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST), whichever occurs first. The stated funding performance period is July 1, 2026 through March 1, 2027. Individual applicants may only receive one award during the current five-year performance cycle. No mandatory match percentage is stated; applicants must disclose other sources of project funds when applicable.
Eligibility and states
Generally eligible are individuals affiliated with NNLM member organizations and NNLM member institutions in Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas. Some exceptions for students, unemployed people, or retired information professionals may apply after consultation with regional staff. Organization applicants must hold NNLM membership (free to join, but institutional membership approval is not automatic), and account holders must link an NNLM user account to the organization member record. Individual applicants generally need a W-9. Applicants usually apply through the Regional Medical Library serving their state and should confirm any UEI and other prerequisites.
Allowable and excluded uses
Potential allowable costs include justified non-credit educational courses, conference or workshop fees, training presentations, travel, hotel, per diem, and professional development that improves reliable health information access. Food, promotional items, furniture, memberships, certification exam fees, tuition for credit-bearing programs, enrollment fees, and mandatory compliance training are not allowable. Travel and other costs must comply with NIH policy and the approved budget. Awards reimburse eligible documented expenditures.
Application procedure
Prepare project information (up to one page), a proposal describing the training activity and its objectives (up to one page), a written budget narrative and separate budget spreadsheet, and relevant personnel CVs or resumes. Institutional applicants need a valid NNLM membership record and associated user account; verify whether a UEI applies. Use 12-point black text, one-inch margins, and DOCX or PDF format. Email the complete proposal and attachments to nnlmregion3@unthsc.edu. Recipients must share knowledge gained, comply with accessibility and reporting requirements, and complete a final report within 30 days after their funded activity ends.
