Open, year-round West Virginia health funding opportunity. The Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation supports Health grants across West Virginia. Its current Health program focuses on innovations in healthcare delivery systems, strengthening public-health infrastructure, community-based health promotion, chronic-disease prevention and management, affordable healthcare access, preventive health services, quality-care systems across the lifespan, children’s healthcare and healthy development, and social drivers of health.
Funding
The Foundation does not publish a standard per-applicant award range or maximum award in its current application guidelines. Atlas does not infer an award ceiling from historical grants. Applicants should develop a project-specific request and confirm fit with Foundation program staff.
Deadline and Application Process
The Foundation states that it does not have submission deadlines and accepts applications throughout the year. This is a genuine rolling opportunity rather than a fixed-date cycle.
As of July 1, 2025, new applications are submitted through the Foundation’s Blackbaud Applicant & Grantee portal. Applicants are encouraged to review the guidelines and Health program description first and, if project fit is uncertain or the applicant has not spoken with program staff, email a brief project description to info@benedum.org before applying.
Eligibility
Grants are made to qualifying IRS Section 501(c)(3) organizations and qualified government units and agencies. The Foundation’s Health program is a West Virginia funding area. The Foundation generally does not support organizations serving locations outside West Virginia or Southwestern Pennsylvania, and the Health program described here is limited to West Virginia.
Required Application Materials
The current Foundation application checklist requires financial and organizational documentation, including two two-year comparisons of the most recent audited financial statements, reviews, or compilations, or specified year-end financial statements when audits are unavailable; the two most recent Form 990s except for government entities; the Foundation organizational-budget template; the project-budget and narrative template; an IRS determination letter except for government entities; and current members of the organization’s governance structure. The application must be submitted through the online system.
Restrictions and Cost Treatment
The Foundation generally does not fund vehicles, construction, pre-development costs, equipment or furnishings, biomedical or bench research, endowments, existing debt, capital campaigns, annual appeals, long-term operating expenses, administrative overhead, indirect cost rates, or replacement of lost government funds. No universal mandatory match or cost-share percentage is published in the current guidelines. Applicants should confirm project-specific funding expectations with Foundation staff.

Direct healthcare publication-scope gate: PASS. This record is restricted to the Foundation’s expressly documented West Virginia Health program. The Foundation does not establish a blanket vendor or consulting-services authorization, so any such role requires applicant-specific and Foundation confirmation.
