The Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) is accepting applications for the Community Heritage Preservation Grant Program, Round 18, authorized under House Bill 1889, Laws of Mississippi, 2026.
Deadline: Applications must be received by October 2, 2026 at 5:00 PM. The controlling application does not state a time zone. Applications may be delivered in person or by mail to the MDAH Historic Preservation Division in Jackson. Late applications are ineligible.
Eligible applicants: Mississippi state agencies, counties or municipalities, school districts, and private nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) status. Individuals and for profit entities are not eligible.
Eligible properties: Historic school buildings and historic county courthouses are eligible statewide. Other historic buildings may be eligible in Certified Local Government communities. Every property must already be designated a Mississippi Landmark when the application is submitted.
Eligible work: Preservation, restoration, rehabilitation, repair, or interpretation of eligible historic properties. Examples include roofing, original windows and doors, exterior materials and architectural elements, foundations, masonry, structural elements, qualifying mechanical, plumbing and electrical work that protects the historic property, significant interior features, and historical interpretation exhibits.
Ineligible work includes: reconstruction of an entire building or site, permit mitigation, projects consisting entirely of routine or annual maintenance, property acquisition, and nonhistoric landscaping or site improvements such as sidewalks or parking lots.
Funding and match: MDAH does not publish a universal maximum grant amount in the Round 18 application. Awards may be smaller than the amount requested. This is a reimbursement grant requiring a cash match of at least 20% of total project cost; in kind match is not credited. Applicants must be prepared to cover project costs before reimbursement.
Professional requirements: Every project needs a Project Coordinator. Projects above $75,000 require a licensed architect. The Project Professional must satisfy the applicable 36 CFR Part 61 qualifications and demonstrate similar project experience. Applicants must not commit to project professionals before MDAH approval.
Required application package: one original, seven copies, and one digital copy on a thumb drive, including the application, checklist, project narrative, budget, color images and photo log, resumes, long term maintenance plan, matching share form and commitment letters, required organizational documentation, signed letters of support, Statement of Understanding, and title and insurance certification.
Procurement: Awarded projects must follow applicable Mississippi state bidding and procurement laws and the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation. Grant recipients also agree to a 25 year Preservation and Maintenance Covenant.
Atlas Opportunity Score: 78/100. This is a legitimate Mississippi education and public facilities capital opportunity for eligible historic school properties, but it is specialized preservation funding with a substantial cash match and strict property qualification requirements.
N9+ Fit Score: 0/100. QC Healthcare / Dr. Miltie direct vendor fit: 0/100. The eligible scope is historic preservation and rehabilitation, not remote physical examination, telehealth, healthcare operations, or clinical services.
