Opportunity Overview

Entergy’s Open Grants Program accepts requests on an ongoing basis for community-serving programs in arts and culture, education and workforce development, poverty solutions and social services, healthy families, and community improvement. Entergy gives priority to programs in places where it has customers and/or employees, including a broad set of Louisiana parishes.

Funding and Timing

Entergy does not publish a maximum award or total funding pool for Open Grants. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. Entergy asks applicants to submit at least three months before the requested funds are needed and states that review and notification generally take eight to twelve weeks. No fixed Louisiana deadline, closing time, or time zone is published for this rolling program.

Who Can Apply

Eligible organizations include 501(c)(3) public charities and private foundations; schools, hospitals, governmental units, and religious institutions with comparable nonprofit status; state or local governments for exclusively public purposes; qualifying 501(c)(19) veterans organizations; and qualifying 501(c)(4) volunteer fire departments. Entergy does not fund organizations without qualifying nonprofit status, utility bills, political candidates or groups, grants to individuals or loans, solely religious activities, employee-owned or employee-operated organizations, or purchases of uniforms, equipment, or trips for school-related organizations or amateur sports teams.

Applications must be submitted online through Entergy’s Blackbaud applicant portal. Entergy states that current IRS documentation controls eligibility verification; applicants whose tax ID is not recognized by the system may need to attach the latest W-9. State and organizational documents are not accepted as substitutes for current IRS eligibility documentation.

Louisiana Geography

Entergy’s published priority service area includes many Louisiana parishes, including Orleans, Jefferson, East Baton Rouge, Calcasieu, Lafayette, Lafourche, Livingston, Ouachita, Rapides, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Terrebonne, and numerous others. Applicants should confirm that the proposed service population is within Entergy’s listed Louisiana service area or otherwise demonstrate a strong Entergy-community connection.

Atlas Strategic Analysis

Atlas Opportunity Score: 75/100. This is a verified, currently open, rolling Louisiana-connected funding source with meaningful education, child/family, and community-service relevance. Its principal limitations are the unpublished funding ceiling and broad program criteria. N9+ Fit Score: 8/100. Entergy’s public Open Grants rules do not specifically authorize telehealth, remote examination technology, or medical-device acquisition, and equipment purchases are expressly ineligible for school-related organizations. Atlas should not force an N9+ use case. Dr. Miltie should not be treated as the direct charitable applicant; any future participation should be applicant-led and conditioned on project-specific cost allowability.

Next Steps

Prioritize eligible Louisiana nonprofits, schools, hospitals, and governmental organizations with projects clearly tied to Entergy’s healthy-families, education/workforce, poverty/social-services, or community-improvement priorities. Confirm the organization’s IRS eligibility, proposed service geography, requested amount, and project-specific cost allowability before advancing a package.
