The Tennessee Center for Health Workforce Development (TCWD) offers its Practice Site Incentive to help eligible rural and underserved Tennessee healthcare practice sites recruit and retain qualifying clinicians.
Funding
TCWD states that grants of up to $50,000 per eligible practice site may be awarded based on demonstrated need. The current program page does not publish a total program funding pool.
Eligible Practice Sites and Clinicians
The current program identifies underserved Tennessee facilities for physician recruitment and retention and FQHCs, charitable clinics, faith based clinics, and other qualifying clinics for dental recruitment and retention. Eligible clinician categories listed by TCWD include primary care physicians, psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and dentists. For 2026, TCWD also expanded eligibility to recruitment and retention of emergency medicine physicians at rural hospitals in Tennessee counties with populations below 105,000.
Allowable Uses
Approved uses listed by TCWD include sign on or retention bonuses, relocation expenses, malpractice insurance, locum tenens staffing, and tuition or loan repayment. Owners, equity partners, and immediate family members of site administrators are not eligible to receive sign on or retention bonuses.
Application and Award Controls
Applications are approved quarterly. TCWD does not publish a fixed application closing date or closing time on the current program page, so Atlas treats this as an active rolling or quarterly opportunity rather than inferring a deadline. Awardees must submit a Funds Use Verification, a copy of the provider employment contract, and other supporting documentation within 180 days to receive funds. Unused funds must be returned to TCWD. The program is funded by the State of Tennessee.
Atlas Analysis
Atlas Opportunity Score: 81/100. This is a useful Tennessee healthcare workforce recruitment and retention program with a clear applicant ceiling and statewide rural and underserved relevance. N9+ Fit Score: 0/100. The verified uses are workforce recruitment and retention expenses rather than equipment, telehealth infrastructure, or remote physical examination technology. Atlas therefore does not identify a legitimate role for the Nonagon N9+ device and platform or a direct QC Healthcare vendor pursuit under the current terms.
Next Step
Potential applicants should verify current practice site and clinician eligibility directly with TCWD, complete the current application, document the recruitment or retention need, and preserve the required employment and funds use documentation.
