Opportunity Overview
The Tennessee Department of Education has opened the FY27 School Safety Alert Grant Fund for the initial purchase of mobile panic alert systems described in Tenn. Code Ann. § 49-6-804(a).
Funding
The controlling application package states that $48,000 is available, distributed as six awards of $8,000 per school. The grant is not subject to a local match. Two schools from each of Tennessee’s three grand divisions will receive funding, following the State’s first-come, first-served sequence.
Eligibility and Allowable Costs
Eligible applicants are Tennessee LEAs, public charter schools, recognized non-public schools, and church-related schools. Funds are limited to qualifying mobile panic alert devices under the cited Tennessee statute. Items outside that statutory scope are ineligible. The grant is reimbursement-based, and recipients must retain invoices, receipts, and other documentation supporting allowable approved expenditures.
Application Process
Applications began in ePlan on September 9, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. Central Time. The package does not publish a final application closing deadline; awards are first-come, first-served, and only the first two qualifying applications from each grand division receive funding. A complete application includes the cover page, program narrative, estimated number of devices, required statutory assurances, a budget not exceeding $8,000, and full ePlan approval through the Fiscal Representative and Authorized Representative statuses.
