Opportunity Overview
The Dettwiller Foundation is accepting applications during the second half of its 2026 Tennessee grant cycle. The Foundation’s mission includes health and human services and education, with a focus on Tennessee. The current application window runs from July 1 through October 15, 2026. The Foundation states that its Board will finalize second-cycle funding decisions in December 2026, with disbursements in January 2027.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants must be registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations operating in Tennessee for at least three years and must have an annual operating budget of at least $300,000. The Foundation does not support individuals, private foundations, other grantmaking organizations, individual schools, disease-specific organizations seeking support for national research projects or programs, projects or organizations with a limited audience, or political activities.
Health and Education Relevance
The Foundation expressly identifies Health & Human Services and Educational as two of its five areas of focus. Its health and human-services guidance emphasizes work improving physical and mental well-being and quality of life for marginalized or underserved communities. Its education guidance emphasizes skills, knowledge, and underserved communities.
2026 LOI Requirement
Beginning in 2026, first-time applicants and organizations returning after at least 18 months without Foundation funding must submit a Letter of Intent before being invited to complete a full application. The LOI should summarize the organization’s mission, proposed project or purpose of funding, population served, alignment with the Foundation mission, and annual operating budget. LOIs are submitted to info@dettwillerfoundation.org. An applicant subject to the LOI rule must wait for an invitation before completing the full application.
Full Application Requirements
Invited or otherwise eligible applicants may submit the Foundation’s website application or send a Microsoft Word or PDF application with supporting documents to the Foundation. The application requests organizational history and programs, the five largest grants received in the prior fiscal year, EIN, current operating budget, IRS determination letter, most recent Form 990 including Schedule A, request amount and whether it is operating or project/program support, proposal purpose and objectives, projected population served, timeline and proposed budget, partners, sustainability, measurable outcomes, evaluation plan, annual report, and other relevant supporting documents. The Foundation encourages applicants to maintain an updated GivingMatters profile.
Funding, Match, and Deadline Controls
The current public grant page does not state a standard minimum or maximum award, total funding pool, mandatory match or cost-share requirement, or a closing clock time/time zone for the October 15 deadline. Atlas therefore does not infer those terms. Applicants should confirm any request-size expectations and the controlling submission cutoff directly with the Foundation before relying on the date alone.
N9+ / Dr. Miltie Relevance
N9+ Fit: 20/100. Health and human services projects are expressly within scope, but the current public criteria do not specifically authorize clinical equipment, telehealth devices, remote physical examination platforms, or contracted clinical services. N9+ should only be considered inside a specific eligible nonprofit project after the Foundation confirms the proposed technology cost is allowable. Dr. Miltie, LLC is not an eligible direct applicant under the published 501(c)(3) requirement.
Atlas Assessment
Atlas Opportunity Score: 79/100. This is a currently open, Tennessee-focused private foundation opportunity with explicit health, human-services, and education relevance, flexible operating/project support language, and a meaningful remaining application window. The lack of a published award ceiling and exact deadline time/time zone reduces execution certainty.
Next Steps
Qualifying Tennessee health, human-services, and education nonprofits should determine whether the 2026 LOI prerequisite applies, verify that they meet the three-year operating-history and $300,000 annual-budget thresholds, maintain current GivingMatters information, and contact the Foundation as needed before submission. Because the official page does not publish a closing time or time zone, Atlas will not initiate applicant outreach under the AutoSend deadline rules until that control is verified.
