Opportunity Overview
The Tennessee Department of Health Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Program is offering no-cost scholarships for Tennessee residents to complete the nationally accredited Duke-UNC Comprehensive Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training Program. TDH announced the opportunity on August 31, 2026, and scholarships are available for both Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 training sessions.
Scholarship Value and Deadline
The scholarship covers participation in the Duke-UNC Comprehensive Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training Program at no cost to selected participants. The Tennessee-specific scholarship materials do not publish a dollar value per scholarship or a total scholarship funding pool, so Atlas does not infer either amount. The Fall 2026 scholarship application deadline is September 28, 2026. The published Tennessee scholarship page does not state a closing clock time or time zone. The Spring 2027 scholarship deadline is January 29, 2027.
Eligibility and Participant Requirements
The scholarship is available exclusively to Tennessee residents who are currently working, or planning to work, in tobacco prevention. TDH specifically encourages medical professionals, behavioral health providers, public health professionals, and others who serve individuals with tobacco use disorder to apply. Participants must attest that they have been tobacco-free for at least six months before participating and must commit to completing all Duke-UNC TTS training requirements.
Scholarship recipients also agree to provide tobacco/nicotine use assessment, treatment-plan recommendations and education, resources for regular follow-up coaching and counseling, and resources for free nicotine-replacement therapy for their clients.
Training Format and Schedule
The program is 100% online and includes self-paced video modules plus four live Zoom sessions. The Fall 2026 live sessions are October 26, October 27, November 2, and November 3, 2026, each from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The program provides 30 continuing-education hours.
Application and Contacts
Applications are submitted through the Tennessee Department of Health REDCap scholarship application form linked from the Duke-UNC Tennessee program page. TDH states that applicants will be notified of their scholarship status within two weeks of submission. Scholarship application questions may be directed to Corrie Groesbeck at Corrie.Groesbeck@tn.gov. Duke-UNC program questions may be directed to Jennifer Greyber at cttsprogram@duke.edu or 919-668-5042.
Atlas Strategic Analysis
Atlas Opportunity Score: 74/100. This is a current, verified Tennessee healthcare workforce-development opportunity with broad relevance to professionals who provide or plan to provide tobacco-cessation services. It is an individual training scholarship rather than an organizational project grant or procurement.
N9+ Fit Score: 0/100. The scholarship pays for professional training and does not establish any allowable pathway for purchasing the Nonagon N9+ remote physical examination platform, telehealth equipment, or QC Healthcare services. Dr. Miltie should not be positioned as a vendor or direct applicant. An individual affiliated with QC Healthcare or another Dr. Miltie operation should be treated as potentially eligible only if Tennessee residency and the published tobacco-prevention/service requirements are independently verified.
Verification Notes
No solicitation number, organizational match or cost-share, equipment allowance, vendor procurement component, or applicant-organization award is published for this scholarship. Because the controlling scholarship page provides the Fall deadline date but no closing time or time zone, Atlas will not initiate deadline-gated applicant outreach based on an assumed closing time.
