Opportunity Overview
Open now, with an important participation gate. The Community Foundation of Greater Memphis is accepting applications for its 2026 Nonprofit Capacity Building grant program through September 26, 2026. The program supports one-time projects that improve nonprofit management, governance, and administration rather than direct program delivery. This can be relevant to qualifying healthcare, human-service, and education nonprofits in West Tennessee when the project is genuinely organizational-capacity work.
Funding and Match
The Foundation states that the average grant is around $15,000 and that approximately $200,000 is available this year. A dollar-for-dollar match is required. The requested grant may not exceed 50% of total project cost, and the full match must be raised before grant funds are released and no later than nine months into the grant term.
Eligible Projects
Representative eligible projects include evaluation of core programs, staff or board training, assessment of technology systems or implementation of technology upgrades, human-resources or succession planning, fundraising planning, and mergers or formal collaborations. Ineligible requests include routine operating costs or salaries outside the capacity project, program expansion or new programs, brick-and-mortar projects, endowment, pass-through grants, religious activities, and deficit replacement.
Eligibility and Geography
Applicants must have operated as a 501(c)(3) for at least two consecutive years, serve the Foundation’s Mid-South service area including West Tennessee, be permitted by the Tennessee Secretary of State to solicit funds, have the last two years of Forms 990, maintain at least one paid staff member and stable board leadership, demonstrate financial stability, and maintain an in-progress LIVEGIVEmidsouth profile that must be published by the award date. For-profit entities, individuals, private foundations, religious organizations, and organizations that received a Nonprofit Capacity Building grant in the previous fiscal year are not eligible.
Application Controls
The Foundation’s current timeline states that applicants must attend a mandatory pre-application information session in August. The online application opened September 3. The deadline to have a LIVEGIVEmidsouth profile in progress, or updates to an existing profile, is September 19, 2026. The GranteeView application deadline is September 26, 2026. The Foundation does not publish a closing clock time or time zone for the September 26 deadline. A complete application includes the GranteeView application, the required LIVEGIVEmidsouth profile work, and a line-item project budget. Because the mandatory information session occurred before this publication, Atlas should advance only applicants that can verify they attended or otherwise received Foundation authorization to proceed.
Atlas Analysis
Atlas Opportunity Score: 74/100. The opportunity offers useful flexible capacity funding for established West Tennessee nonprofits and expressly allows technology-system assessment or upgrades, but the mandatory 1:1 match, prior August information-session requirement, and organizational-capacity-only scope materially narrow the current applicant pool.
N9+ Fit: 0/100. Although technology upgrades may be eligible, this is an internal nonprofit-capacity program rather than a clinical-service or medical-device funding vehicle. Atlas should not position the Nonagon N9+ remote physical examination platform under this opportunity.
Dr. Miltie direct-applicant fit: 0/100. For-profit entities are ineligible, and the program also requires a dollar-for-dollar non-Federal match. Any Dr. Miltie role would need to be applicant-selected and limited to an otherwise allowable capacity-building scope; no direct submission should be advanced.
Next Action
Screen established West Tennessee healthcare, human-service, and education nonprofits only if they can verify the mandatory pre-application session requirement, current LIVEGIVEmidsouth status, no prior-year Capacity Building award, an eligible one-time capacity project, and a credible 1:1 matching-funds plan. Do not begin outreach until those applicant-specific controls and the exact deadline send gates are satisfied.
