Opportunity Overview
The Chartercare Foundation 2026 Emerging Health Care Needs Grant – Round 2 supports Rhode Island nonprofit health and wellness programs addressing critical unmet healthcare needs. The Foundation seeks innovative pilot programs or creative expansion or application of proven programs that can change or save lives, benefit a significant population, and reach across geographic, ethnic, or cultural barriers.
Funding and Deadline
Funding is available up to $50,000 per proposal. The current Foundation deadline calendar lists October 1, 2026 for Emerging Health Care Needs, Round 2. The controlling public materials do not publish an exact submission time or timezone, total Round 2 funding pool, or expected number of awards.
Eligibility and Geography
Applicants must be Rhode Island 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations in good financial standing. Grants are made to organizations, not individuals. The Foundation’s broader grant guidance says awards benefit health and wellness programs throughout Rhode Island, collaboration among nonprofits is encouraged, broad geographic representation and the total number of clients served are considered, and salary and benefits as general budget relief are not preferred.
Program Priorities
The Emerging Health Care Needs application describes programs addressing previously unmet needs and serving meaningful populations. Examples include substance or sexual abuse, lead abatement, basic health needs for underserved populations, mental health for older adults, and continuing patient needs arising from the pandemic; the examples are expressly nonexclusive. Proposals should explain program scope, number of people served, how access will be achieved, how progress will be monitored and tracked, and how outcomes will be measured.
Required Application Materials
The current application calls for the proposal description, a 12-month proposal budget, the current fiscal-year organizational budget comparing actual revenue with budgeted expenses, a cover letter containing an executive summary addressing the required program points, the organization’s last audit, a list of anticipated funding from other agencies, and the completed application cover sheet. Incomplete proposals will not be considered.
The current materials do not state a mandatory non-Federal match or cost share, special vendor registration, procurement rule, or categorical prohibition on equipment or technology. Applicants should confirm project-specific technology and vendor costs with the Foundation before relying on them in a budget.

Technology and Dr. Miltie Relevance
N9+ Fit Score: 72/100 conditional. A Nonagon N9+ project may fit when an eligible Rhode Island nonprofit proposes an innovative access-to-care or underserved-population program using guided remote physical examinations, vitals, remote assessment, and telehealth-enabled clinical encounters. Current Round 2 guidance does not specifically authorize N9+ or equipment costs, so project-specific allowability must be confirmed before outreach or budgeting. The Foundation has historically funded telehealth-related initiatives in Rhode Island, including teleservice infrastructure at Rhode Island Free Clinic and telehealth initiatives at other nonprofits, which supports technology relevance but does not establish current-round approval.

Other realistic Rhode Island nonprofit candidates should be qualified against the same eligibility, project, budget, deduplication, and outreach gates.
Dr. Miltie, LLC is not a direct eligible applicant under the published nonprofit eligibility rule. Any N9+ or QC role must be applicant-led and independently allowable.
