The Rhode Island Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals (BHDDH), Division of Developmental Disabilities, operates the Technology Fund to help people receiving Division-funded developmental-disability services obtain technology that supports goals in their Person-Centered Plan (PCP).
The current BHDDH page, updated August 18, 2026, lists four submission deadlines: August 31, 2026; November 30, 2026; February 28, 2027; and May 31, 2027. As of September 11, 2026, the next review deadline is November 30, 2026. BHDDH does not publish an exact closing time or timezone for these deadlines.
Eligible applicants are individuals receiving funded services through the Division of Developmental Disabilities who have a current PCP. The requested technology must help the person meet a PCP goal. A separate technology-specific goal is not required when an existing PCP goal already supports the requested use.
BHDDH states there is no set amount an individual may request, although the fund is limited and must be shared across people receiving Division services. Current examples of potentially eligible technology include tablets or cell phones, smart-home devices, electronic watches, reminder applications, medication alarms, and screen readers. The fund is for technology tools or software only. Assessments and training are not funded. Cellular-capable devices may be considered when justified, but monthly cellular fees are not covered. Gaming and entertainment equipment generally is not funded unless it directly supports a PCP goal and does not isolate the individual from community participation.
If a request is approved, BHDDH sends it to the person’s service provider or Fiscal Intermediary for purchase. The current public page does not state a mandatory non-Federal match or cost-share requirement, a fixed total funding pool, or procurement terms for outside technology vendors.
