Atlas Analysis

Active capital and major-medical-equipment funding opportunity for eligible 501(c)(3) organizations. The Mabee Foundation supports construction, renovation, and the purchase of major medical equipment in its eligible geographic area. Applicants must have raised at least 40% of the total project cost from qualifying public donors before consideration, and Foundation support is generally limited to up to 20% of total project cost with a maximum grant of $2,000,000.

The Mabee Foundation accepts capital grant requests for qualifying projects in Oklahoma and five other states. Its published guidelines limit funding to construction, renovations, and the purchase of major medical equipment. The Foundation considers requests quarterly. For the next board cycle after this verification, a complete request must be received by December 1, 2026 for consideration at the January 2027 board meeting. The public guidelines do not publish an exact cutoff time or time zone.

Funding

A Mabee Foundation grant may be as much as 20% of the total project cost, up to a maximum grant of $2,000,000. Before a request will be considered, the applicant must already have raised at least 40% of the total project cost from other public donors and must identify those donors. The guidelines exclude borrowed money, internal or reserve funds, noncapital estate bequests, undesignated donations, and government funds from that 40% threshold. If awarded, the organization generally has one year to raise the remaining project funds.

Who can apply

Applicants must be qualifying nonprofit organizations with projects located in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas, Missouri, or Kansas. Private foundations and government owned or operated organizations are not eligible. The Foundation does not fund operating or program support, debt retirement, endowments, individuals, or projects that are already under construction or under a signed construction contract. K through 12 capital projects are generally excluded except schools serving exclusively students with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

Eligible project types

Funding is limited to construction, renovations, and major medical equipment. For healthcare organizations, the major medical equipment category creates a legitimate potential pathway for technology intensive clinical capital projects, but the Foundation does not specifically identify the Nonagon N9+ device and platform or remote examination technology as preapproved. Any proposed device must be part of a real applicant led clinical project and should be confirmed by the Foundation as qualifying major medical equipment before it is budgeted.

Application process

Requests are submitted through the Foundation’s online application process. The public guidelines expressly require the applicant to document the qualifying 40% already raised and identify the supporting public donors. Additional portal fields and attachments should be confirmed in the live application before submission.
