Grant Overview
Triangle Community Foundation is accepting applications for its first 2026 Faith-Based Housing Affordability Grant Program to help eligible faith-based organizations and nonprofit housing partners pursue affordable housing development in North Carolina. This is competitive charitable financial assistance, not a government contract.
Applicant Funding and Deadline
Individual project grant: up to $25,000. The foundation has $75,000 total program funding across grants; that pool is not an individual award. Applications opened September 28, 2026, and close October 30, 2026. The published application guidance does not specify an exact closing hour or time zone.
Eligibility and Award Recipient
Each application requires a partnership between a qualifying 501(c)(3) faith-based organization and a qualifying 501(c)(3) housing nonprofit, both based in and serving the Triangle area: Wake, Durham, Orange, or Chatham County, North Carolina. Either partner may be the lead applicant, but applicant information from both organizations is required. All grant dollars are awarded exclusively to the nonprofit housing partner for approved joint project needs, not directly to a congregation. A faith-based organization may participate in one application. A housing nonprofit may submit up to three applications involving different faith-based partners.
Eligible Projects and Restrictions
Funded predevelopment and capacity-building work can include congregation education and consensus-building, community engagement, architecture and site-feasibility studies, environmental surveys, financial modeling, legal costs relating to lease structure or title search, and zoning or entitlement fees. Proposals must advance local housing affordability. Both partners must meet the foundation nondiscrimination policy and affirm its Fair Housing & Inclusive Occupancy and Faith Neutral Resident Selection statements. The funder does not publish a universal mandatory cash match; review the application portal for detailed budget and expense rules. Do not assume construction costs or operating support are eligible without funder confirmation.
Application Steps
Identify the housing nonprofit and faith-based partner, document their qualifying status and four-county service geography, choose a lead applicant, define a concrete joint predevelopment scope and budget, and provide the required information from both organizations. Review the official application, including nondiscrimination and occupancy statements, and submit through the linked online grant portal by October 30. The foundation expects to announce grantees on December 11, 2026.
