Required next actionReview RFA-RM-27-013, confirm the project begins with a qualifying validated prototype and appropriate implementation team, complete the required attachments and budget, and submit by October 19, 2026 at 5:00 PM local time of the applicant organization.

Broad Eligibility

M2C requires an existing technically validated AI-powered, image-centered multimodal CDS prototype and a multi-institutional team capable of real-world clinical implementation and multi-site validation. An industrial partner is not mandatory, but the commercial/business component and all required clinical, AI, medical-device and workflow expertise must be identified in the application.

Atlas Analysis

NIH's PRIMED-AI Model-to-Clinic opportunity supports projects that move validated image-centered multimodal AI clinical decision-support prototypes toward real-world clinical use. NIH anticipates six to eight awards, with direct-cost limits of $450,000 per year in the UG3 phase and $1,000,000 per year in the UH3 phase.

The NIH Common Fund has posted RFA-RM-27-013, PRIMED-AI Model-to-Clinic (M2C). M2C is designed to translate technically validated AI-enabled, image-centered, multimodal clinical decision-support tools, developed toward Software as a Medical Device, into real-world clinical applications.

Timing: the earliest submission date is September 19, 2026. Applications are due October 19, 2026 at 5:00 PM local time of the applicant organization, and late applications are not accepted.

Funding: NIH anticipates approximately six to eight awards. Direct-cost limits are $450,000 per year during the UG3 phase and $1,000,000 per year during the UH3 phase. The combined UG3/UH3 project period cannot exceed five years. Cost sharing is not required.

Entry threshold: projects without an existing AI-powered, image-centered, multimodal CDS prototype are non-responsive. NIH states that a technically validated prototype may have validation at a minimum of a single site, unimodally or in retrospective data, but the model must already exist and be image-centered. The UH3 phase requires multi-site clinical validation. Applicants must also demonstrate sufficient access to verified, comprehensive multimodal datasets.

Atlas fit: N9+ may be relevant as a complementary physiologic, remote-exam, connected-health or workflow data source inside a qualified multimodal CDS implementation, but N9+ cannot be the required imaging anchor and cannot substitute for an existing AI prototype. The most realistic Atlas pathway is technology-subcontract or joint participation with a team that already owns a validated imaging-centered AI model and needs additional clinical data, remote-exam workflows or deployment infrastructure.

Applications may be prepared through NIH ASSIST, an institutional system-to-system solution, or Grants.gov Workspace, with eRA Commons used for tracking. Verify current NIH notices and PRIMED-AI FAQs before submission.
