The National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), is accepting applications under RFA-AI-27-004, Atopic Dermatitis Research Network (ADRN) (U19 Clinical Trial Optional).
The ADRN program will support multidisciplinary Centers integrating clinical and translational research to improve understanding and management of atopic dermatitis, with emphasis on chronic skin inflammation and skin defense mechanisms. The program permits mechanistic human research, observational studies, and appropriate single-site pilot clinical trials, but Phase III or IV trials are nonresponsive.
Deadline: New applications are due September 24, 2026 at 5:00 PM local time of the applicant organization. The NOFO opened August 24, 2026. Late applications are not accepted.
Funding: NIAID intends to commit $4.52 million in FY2027 to fund 3 to 4 awards. Application budgets are not expected to exceed $750,000 in direct costs per year, excluding separately authorized Infrastructure and Opportunity Fund and SUNBEAM participation funds. The project period is five years. Cost sharing is not required.
Eligibility: Eligible domestic applicants include public and private institutions of higher education, nonprofits, small businesses and other for-profit organizations, state and local governments, Tribal governments and organizations, eligible federal agencies, U.S. territories, independent school districts, housing authorities, faith-based and community-based organizations, and regional organizations. Foreign organizations, non-U.S. components of U.S. organizations, and foreign components are not eligible. Only one application per institution is allowed, and an investigator may serve as PD/PI on only one ADRN application.
Submission and structure: This is a U19 multi-project cooperative agreement. Applications must follow NIH Multi-Project instructions and are submitted electronically through ASSIST or an institutional system-to-system solution. Required architecture includes an Overall component, Administrative Core, Data Stewardship Core, and at least two Research Projects; optional Clinical and Scientific Cores are permitted within the NOFO limits. Active NIH registrations and PD/PI ORCID linkage are required.
Atlas fit: This is a strong immunology, dermatology, clinical research, translational research, biomedical data, and network-science opportunity. Although for-profit organizations are structurally eligible and no match is required, a credible direct Dr. Miltie prime pursuit would require an established atopic-dermatitis research program, qualified PD/PI leadership, human-subject and translational research infrastructure, multi-project center management, data stewardship, and the scientific capacity to operate within the ADRN network. Preferred posture: Partner-Led / Atopic Dermatitis Clinical-Translational Research Center.
