The Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey (HFNJ) accepts a limited number of Special One-Time Grant requests on a rolling basis. These grants are generally intended for urgent circumstances, time-sensitive needs or limited-duration initiatives and are normally awarded as one-time support rather than renewable funding.
Funding and timing: Requests must be for less than $35,000. Special One-Time Grants are considered on a rolling basis rather than the Foundation’s quarterly Standard/Capital deadline schedule.
Eligibility and geography: Applicants must be private 501(c)(3) nonprofits that are not private foundations. HFNJ does not make grants to individuals or government agencies. Priority geography includes greater Newark and Jewish organizations within the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ footprint covering Essex, Morris, Somerset, Union and parts of Sussex counties, with limited consideration for targeted vulnerable populations elsewhere in Essex, Morris and Union Counties when aligned with Foundation priorities.
Project fit: All proposals must comply with HFNJ’s grant guidelines, which focus on reducing health disparities and improving health and well-being for underserved populations. HFNJ supports clinical care needs, behavioral health, prevention and health promotion, health education/literacy, capacity building, and capital/equipment requests that improve access or equitable standards of care. The current public guidance does not state a mandatory non-Federal match.
Required materials: HFNJ lists the Special One-Time Application, logic model, project budget and IRS 501(c)(3) certification letter as required materials/supplements. Applications are submitted through the Foundation’s online portal and are subject to the Foundation’s current permission/intake process.
Atlas treats this as a useful fast-track health funding pathway for smaller urgent or time-sensitive projects. N9+ may be relevant only where an eligible nonprofit can justify a limited, high-impact clinical access or equipment need within the under-$35,000 request threshold. Dr. Miltie/QC Healthcare is not an eligible prime applicant.
