Open now. The Nevada Office of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) states that it is accepting applications for the Health Profession Education Program (HPEP) of Nevada for 2026-2027. The program provides tuition-support funding to Nevada residents in selected high-need health professions in exchange for a Nevada workforce service commitment after graduation and licensure.
Current applicant-relevant funding: Registered Nursing students may receive $2,400 per disbursement; qualifying Advanced Practice Nursing students, including Family Nurse Practitioner and Doctor of Nursing Practice pathways, may receive $7,700; and qualifying Master of Social Work students may receive $5,000. Funding is contingent on Nevada legislative appropriation and is described as limited.
Deadline/status: the official 2026-2027 application page is marked Open and says applications submitted by June 30, 2026 receive priority consideration. The page does not publish a final closing date, closing time, or time zone. Because the priority date has passed, applicants should treat availability as limited and confirm current funding status with Nevada WICHE before relying on an award.
Eligibility: applicants must have been Nevada residents for at least one year before applying and must maintain Nevada residency while in school. Applicants must be accepted into the applicable professional program. Current supported pathways include RN programs, qualifying advanced-practice nursing programs such as FNP and DNP, and MSW programs leading toward Nevada social-work licensure.
Required materials and submission: the online HPEP application requires a professional-program acceptance letter, most recent unofficial transcript, and Nevada driver’s license or Nevada identification card demonstrating at least one year of residency. If the ID was issued less than one year before application, additional residency documentation is required. Questions may be directed to nvwiche@nevada.edu or 775-784-4901.
Funding/use and service obligation: if awarded, HPEP funding is sent directly to the applicant’s school on the applicant’s behalf. The participant remains responsible for the balance of tuition and fees. One year of full-time employment in a Nevada Health Profession Shortage Area or medically underserved area is required per funding disbursement after graduation and licensure. Default can convert the stipend to a loan with accrued interest and applicable penalties. Participants must provide periodic documentation to Nevada WICHE and have up to five years to complete the service obligation.
Match/cost share: no formal matching-funds or cost-share requirement is stated. However, HPEP does not necessarily cover total tuition or fees, and the student is responsible for the remaining balance.
N9+ Fit: 0/100. This is an individual health-workforce education funding program, not a telehealth, remote-exam, procurement, or organizational implementation opportunity.
Atlas Opportunity Score: 84/100. The program is currently posted as open by the controlling Nevada WICHE source and provides concrete support to Nevada health-profession students, but awards are limited, the priority date has passed, and there is no organizational or Dr. Miltie/QC Healthcare direct-vendor pathway.
