Opportunity Overview
Open for the Fall 2026 cycle. The Kearney Area Community Foundation’s Arthur Klinkacek Community Enrichment Fund supports projects, programs, and events that improve quality of life in the greater Kearney area, including community preservation, enrichment, youth, education, public-purpose, and other locally important work.
Funding
Discretionary grants are typically more than $5,000 and may be multi-year awards depending on the size and scope of the request. The Foundation does not publish a fixed per-applicant maximum or total annual funding pool in the current guidelines; the number and size of grants depend on funds available for distribution.
Deadlines and Application Process
A Letter of Intent is required first. For the Fall 2026 cycle, the Foundation states that the LOI deadline is 15 days before the October 15 full-application deadline, which makes the required LOI due September 30, 2026. Applicants whose LOI is approved receive access to the full online application, due October 15, 2026. The current official materials do not publish a closing clock time or time zone for either deadline, so Atlas does not infer one.
Eligibility
Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) organizations in good financial health, qualifying governmental agencies for public purposes, and public, charter, private/parochial Pre-K-12 schools and post-secondary educational institutions when the request addresses a priority issue and is unique, community-oriented, or a sustainable and replicable pilot. Programs generally must serve the greater Kearney area; except in extraordinary circumstances, only projects in Buffalo County, Nebraska are considered.
Funding Priorities and Restrictions
Preference is given to projects with long-term local impact, measurable outcomes, innovative approaches, stronger community assets, greater self-sufficiency, additional leveraged funding, and meaningful partnerships or collaborations. The Foundation does not fund individuals, general operating support, religious or political purposes, endowments, annual fund drives, fundraising-event sponsorships, or capital investments that are not directly tied to program delivery, client service, or organizational capacity-building.
Required Supporting Materials
Invited applicants must provide the organization’s federal tax-exemption letter or fiscal-agent documentation, leadership or board information, the current operating budget and principal income sources, recent year-end financial statements including audited statements when available, a project budget showing funding sources, expenses and in-kind support, and the latest IRS Form 990.
Match and Cost Share
The current guidelines do not state a mandatory match or cost-share requirement. However, the Foundation gives preference to proposals that attract or leverage additional funding.
Atlas Analysis
Atlas Opportunity Score: 84/100. This is a verified, locally administered Nebraska opportunity with a meaningful award scale, broad nonprofit, public-entity, and education eligibility, and a clear required LOI gate. The score is moderated by the narrow Buffalo County geography, the absence of a published maximum award, and the lack of an exact closing time or time zone.
N9+ Fit: 35/100, conditional. Program-related capital investments may be eligible when directly tied to service delivery or organizational capacity, and schools, nonprofits, and public entities may qualify. However, the program does not specifically solicit clinical technology, telehealth, diagnostic devices, or medical equipment. Any N9+ role would require an applicant-controlled, clearly justified project with confirmed cost allowability.
QC Healthcare / Dr. Miltie direct fit: 10/100 conditional. Current public materials do not establish Dr. Miltie or QC Healthcare as a direct eligible applicant in Buffalo County. A future role would most plausibly be applicant-led and vendor-specific rather than a direct grant application.
Next Action
Eligible Buffalo County organizations should submit the required online Letter of Intent by September 30, 2026 and, if invited, complete the full online application by October 15, 2026. Because the Foundation has not published a closing time or time zone, Atlas should not use the final day for cold outreach planning without direct deadline clarification.
