This applicant-facing grant supports collaborative urban food-growing, community gardening, and hands-on education that directly benefits people experiencing food insecurity in metropolitan communities.

Funding, deadline and timing

Individual participant/project awards: $5,000–$20,000. Applications are due November 17, 2026, 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time (5:00 p.m. Pacific Time). Selected applicants are scheduled to be notified by December 16, 2026, with project funds expected in January 2027. Applicant and partnership eligibility

Eligible uses may support a new or existing collaborative food-growing program. The proposal requires a project budget; indirect expenses, including overhead and fringe benefits, may not exceed 10%. The partners must provide signed collaboration/commitment letters from their leaders. Nonprofits must provide tax-exempt documentation, and award recipients must supply IRS Form W-9. Grantees must attend three virtual participant forums, a summer check-in, share lessons learned, and submit a final report.
