National Dance Project Presentation Grants — By Invitation
The New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) continues its National Dance Project (NDP) Presentation Grant program for tours of existing NDP-supported works, although the separate NDP Production Grant held its final new cohort in September 2026. This is applicant financial assistance to eligible U.S. nonprofit and public-sector presenting organizations, not commercial procurement or unrestricted organizational funding.
Individual Applicant Funding
A qualifying presenter may receive an invitation-specific subsidy of up to 50% of the artist fee, which may include eligible artist housing, per diem and travel. No uniform dollar maximum for an individual presenter is published; the tour coordinator negotiates each presenter’s allocation and NEFA confirms it in the invitation. A separate $20,000 reserve associated with a funded NDP touring project is not an individual applicant grant ceiling or guaranteed award. The applicant must cover the portion of eligible artist costs not funded by the grant, without treating it as an unrestricted 1:1 matching grant. Payments are normally made by reimbursement after NEFA accepts the final report.
Eligible Applicants and Activities
The presenter must appear on a current eligible NDP project’s accepted tour/sharing plan and be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, state or local government unit, institution of higher education, or federally recognized tribal government. It must host at least one public or virtual performance of the exact NDP-supported work during that project’s eligible touring period. Presentation of different works by the same artist, past engagements, or performances already supported by overlapping NEFA grants are not eligible. A presenter may apply separately for each distinct qualifying NDP project.
Application Stages and Deadlines
Rolling, by invitation and eligible project schedule. Presenters first contact the designated tour coordinator. The coordinator files a NEFA tour/sharing plan at least two months before the first scheduled engagement and negotiates each presentation subsidy. After NEFA reviews the tour plan, invited presenters must apply at least two months before their own engagement. No single calendar deadline is published. NEFA generally issues grant decisions about four weeks after a complete invited application. Applicants should verify the current project’s specific tour dates before proceeding.
Reporting and Official Instructions
After a qualifying event, submit the program and publicity materials, photographs, signed artist/company receipt, and complete online grantee report for reimbursement. Review the controlling NEFA National Dance Project Presentation Grant guidance; verify current NDP project eligibility and required organizational documents directly with the funder.
