Program Overview
The Mississippi Forestry Commission (MFC), in cooperation with the USDA Forest Service, administers the Trees Across Mississippi (TAM) Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program for projects that strengthen urban and community forestry across Mississippi.
Funding
Both IRA-qualified and non-IRA projects may request up to $40,000. IRA-qualified projects benefiting MFC-approved communities that meet Urban and Community Assessment Tool (UCAT) qualifications may receive a match waiver. Non-IRA projects require an 80/20 match with non-federal funds.
Eligible Applicants
Eligible recipients include Mississippi local governments (city, town, or county), 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, and public educational institutions. Other organizations must apply in partnership with a nonprofit organization or local government.
Eligible Project Examples
Eligible activities include professional urban-forestry staffing, workforce development and training, canopy mapping and tree inventories, urban heat-island mapping, tree-ordinance development, storm-readiness planning, invasive-species removal, qualifying tree planting on non-federal public property with required maintenance and watering plans, tree-board development, nonprofit program development, and urban wood utilization.
Ineligible Project Examples
The current RFA identifies beautification projects, research, trail design/construction/maintenance, property acquisition, construction projects, equipment purchases, and gift cards as ineligible.
Deadline and Submission
Applications must be submitted by September 30, 2026 through the application pathway linked by MFC. The current RFA does not state an exact closing clock time or time zone. Under Atlas fail-closed controls, no applicant-specific ORIGINAL outreach should begin until that procedural ambiguity and all applicant-level eligibility, recipient, opt-out, bounce, and deduplication requirements are cleared.
Payment and Reporting
Periodic progress reports and a final report are required. Funds are reimbursed after project completion, subject to compliance with reporting requirements.
Atlas Assessment
Atlas Opportunity Score: 70/100. N9+ Fit: 0/100. QC Healthcare / Dr. Miltie direct-vendor fit: 0/100. This is a legitimate Mississippi-administered community and public-sector opportunity, but it does not support a defensible clinical, telehealth, or connected-exam pathway.
