Verified current opportunity. Mississippi Humanities Council (MHC) Minigrants provide up to $2,500 for public humanities projects that primarily serve Mississippians and are free and open to the public.
Funding and timing
Minigrants are accepted on a rolling basis with no fixed application deadline. The dedicated MHC General Grants page and the current Grant Application Guidelines, revised August 17, 2026, require applications to be received through the online portal at least four weeks before the program or proposed grant period begins. MHC’s broader Grants overview still displays a two-week lead time; Atlas therefore uses the more conservative four-week standard and will fail closed on applicant action inside that window unless MHC provides current authoritative clarification.
Before applying, applicants must discuss the project with MHC staff. Organizations seeking MHC Minigrants must provide a Unique Entity ID (UEI); the current program page states that SAM registration is not required.
Eligibility
Applicants must be organized for nonprofit purposes; incorporation or federal tax-exempt status is not required. Typical eligible entities include private nonprofits, institutions of higher education, state and local governments, federally recognized tribal governments, community and cultural organizations, educational and professional groups, museums, libraries, public agencies, and noncommercial radio and television stations. Individuals and for-profit entities are not eligible.
Cost share
For MHC grants other than Mississippi Stories grants, combined cash and in-kind cost-sharing must at least equal the MHC grant amount. A Minigrant of $2,500 therefore requires at least $2,500 in qualifying cash and/or in-kind cost share. Donated services, volunteer time, meeting space, and donated materials may qualify when properly documented.
Program fit and restrictions
Supported work may include public humanities programs, exhibits, planning for larger projects, and original productions in film, television, radio, podcasts, or online resources. Current guidelines exclude admission or registration charges, applicant-employee salaries, facility construction/preservation/renovation, acquisitions, equipment purchases over $10,000, scholarships or prizes, lobbying, and other listed nonqualifying uses.
Atlas assessment
Atlas Opportunity Score: 65/100. N9+ Fit: 0/100. QC Healthcare / Dr. Miltie Direct Vendor Fit: 0/100. This is a legitimate small rolling Mississippi opportunity for qualifying public-humanities projects, but it does not present a defensible clinical-device or direct-vendor pathway. Applicant-specific action requires a credible project, UEI, 1:1 cost share, the conservative four-week lead, verified portal requirements, verified business contact/email, opt-out and bounce clearance, and authoritative CRM/Atlas_Email_Queue deduplication.
