Opportunity Overview
The Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) Foundation has launched the County Medical Society Transition Grants to help Michigan county medical societies establish independent operations and strengthen member services following MSMS reorganization. The program opened August 1, 2026 and is currently accepting applications.
Funding and Deadline
MSMS states that applicant requests should generally be between $1,000 and $7,500. Awards depend on the number and quality of applications and remain at the Foundation’s discretion. Applications are due October 16, 2026. The controlling program announcement does not publish an exact closing time or time zone. The Foundation Board is scheduled to review requests November 4, 2026, with awards planned for November 30, 2026.
Eligibility
The applicant must be a county medical society in Michigan. It must have an active board of directors or designated transition committee, and at least one active MSMS physician member must be involved in or sponsor the grant activity. Dr. Miltie, LLC is not an eligible prime applicant.
Eligible Transition Costs
Published qualifying costs include administrative systems such as billing software, accounting systems and membership databases; county-specific marketing and communications; website redesign and digital membership outreach; legal and governance work such as bylaw updates connected with transition to an independent 501(c)(6) or 501(c)(3); virtual-office infrastructure; digital communication tools; and staffing or consultant support tied to the transition.
Application, Qualifications and Reporting
Applicants are instructed to follow the MSMS Foundation Grant Application structure. That application requires a defined purpose and objectives, implementation timetable, key personnel qualifications, project budget and revenue information, evaluation plan, organizational information, an MSMS physician member sponsor, IRS determination documentation, board affiliations and organizational operating-budget information. Grantees must submit a simple post-project report describing expenditures and progress toward independence.
Evaluation Criteria
MSMS will evaluate demonstrated financial or operational need arising from the reorganization, a realistic long-term sustainability plan, and the extent to which the requested funding improves services to county physician members.
Atlas Strategic Analysis
Atlas Opportunity Score: 74/100. The program is legitimate and currently open, but its eligible-applicant universe is narrow and limited to Michigan county medical societies.
N9+ Fit Score: 0/100. The qualifying-cost structure is for association transition, governance, administration and member-service capacity rather than patient-care technology or clinical service delivery. Atlas does not force a Nonagon N9+ fit. QC Healthcare and other Dr. Miltie clinical services are likewise not a demonstrated fit. Although consultant support is eligible, Dr. Miltie should not be represented as qualified for association-transition consulting absent verified relevant qualifications and a legitimate requested role.
Verification and Procurement Notes
No mandatory match or cost-share requirement, separate procurement rule, vendor registration requirement, solicitation number, exact closing time, time zone, addendum, amendment, or program-specific FAQ is published in the controlling announcement reviewed by Atlas. Any applicant-controlled board, tax-status, budget, sponsor, project-plan, or qualification documentation must be supplied and verified by the applicant rather than fabricated.
