Opportunity Overview
The Great Lakes Energy People Fund Fall 2026 Grant Cycle supports nonprofit and charitable organizations providing humanitarian, educational, or community development services within Great Lakes Energy’s 26-county Michigan service area. The program favors one-time projects that benefit many people, build organizational capacity, leverage other resources, supplement local initiatives, and improve effective service delivery.
Funding
Great Lakes Energy does not publish a universal per-applicant maximum for the People Fund. Recent 2026 awards ranged from several hundred dollars to more than $10,000, depending on regional board decisions and project needs. Atlas therefore does not infer a ceiling.
Fall 2026 Deadlines and Submission
Letters of interest are due October 1, 2026. Grant applications and associated paperwork are due October 15, 2026. Great Lakes Energy does not publish a closing clock time or time zone for either deadline. Applications are submitted through the Great Lakes Energy People Fund online Grant Lifecycle Manager portal. New users must create an account; existing organizations should avoid creating duplicate portal accounts and contact the grant administrator if credentials are uncertain.
Eligibility and Geography
Eligible applicants are nonprofit, charitable, tax-exempt, or 501(c)(3) organizations providing humanitarian, educational, or community-development services in Great Lakes Energy’s Michigan service area. The program is administered through north, central, and south regional boards. The service area includes portions of Allegan, Antrim, Barry, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Clare, Crawford, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Kent, Lake, Manistee, Mason, Mecosta, Missaukee, Montcalm, Montmorency, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana, Osceola, Oscoda, Ottawa, Otsego, and Wexford counties.
Funding Priorities and Restrictions
Competitive projects are generally one-time rather than ongoing, benefit a large number of people, leverage funds from other sources, help individuals or families in crisis, increase service capacity, encourage collaboration, avoid duplication, and improve effective delivery of services. People Fund grants are generally not awarded for daily school operations, normal operating expenses such as stipends, salaries, travel, room and board, rent, lease, or planning expenses, fundraising or political campaigns, loans or deficit spending, endowments, retroactive projects, individuals, scholarships, or religious doctrine. Faith-based organizations may be considered when the funded service is open to the broader community regardless of religious affiliation.
Match and Cost Share
No universal mandatory match or cost-share requirement is published. Great Lakes Energy favors projects that leverage other funds, and some recent awards have been made contingent on recipients raising the balance of project costs. Applicants should therefore disclose the complete project financing plan and should not assume the People Fund will cover every project cost.
Health and Education Relevance
The People Fund has a documented history of supporting medical and health services, educational programs, youth initiatives, public-safety equipment, accessibility, and service-capacity projects. In the first 2026 cycle, awards included replacement AEDs for rural fire departments, an AED for a district library, child-advocacy services, dementia-friendly programming, youth educational equipment, sensory tables, and classroom or technology equipment.
Atlas Fit Analysis
Atlas Opportunity Score: 79/100. The program is open, locally administered in Michigan, broadly relevant to health and education, and can support one-time equipment and service-capacity projects. The lack of a published universal award ceiling and highly localized regional review reduce predictability.
N9+ Fit Score: 30/100. Health services and equipment have been funded historically and service capacity is a stated priority, but the published program does not specifically prioritize telehealth, remote physical examinations, diagnostics, or clinical devices. Any role for the Nonagon N9+ device and platform would need to arise from a genuinely eligible applicant project and confirmed allowable use. Dr. Miltie, LLC is not an eligible prime applicant.
