Massachusetts — Boston Age Strong Commission 2027 Rolling Grants
The City of Boston Age Strong Commission is accepting applications for its FY2027 Rolling Grant Opportunity to help small nonprofit and community groups deliver one-time programs and meet modest unexpected programming needs for Boston older adults. The current annual grant program began accepting applications on September 17, 2026 and operates in four review rounds, subject to available appropriated funding. It is competitive financial assistance, not procurement.
Applicant grant amount and overall funding
Up to $1,500 per organization and award. The City may grant the full amount, a partial amount, or no award. The City’s $100,000 total program funding allocation is the funding pool for all applicants, not an individual award limit; the City may increase it if additional funding becomes available. Awards depend on appropriations and available funds.
Eligible applicants and service geography
Applicants must be tax-exempt nonprofit organizations or individuals representing senior groups/civic associations serving Boston residents. Groups without nonprofit status may qualify with an eligible nonprofit fiscal sponsor. Private businesses and LLCs are not eligible. Proposed City-funded activities must serve Boston residents only. Applicants must be in good standing with the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, the IRS, and any applicable prior City/Age Strong grant reporting requirements.
Eligible activities and priorities
Priority is given to small-scale, one-time programming that expands older adults’ social engagement in underserved Boston communities, introduces additional residents to services, and addresses unforeseen activity costs. Examples given by the City include special community celebrations, transportation for small groups, admissions for trips and outings, programming materials, arts supplies, and supplies for cultural or holiday events. Applicants must explain the community need, demonstrate experience serving Boston residents, identify personnel/resources to deliver the program, and present a realistic program budget and timeline. Funded activities must be completed in the applicable award period.
Application rounds and deadlines
Applications are rolling until funds are exhausted or March 23, 2027. The first review-round cutoff was October 5, 2026, at 9 p.m. and has passed. The next announced review cutoff is Monday, November 23, 2026, at 9 p.m., with awards anticipated in January 2027 and eligible programming February 1–April 30, 2027. Later review cutoffs are January 26, 2027, at 9 p.m. (Round 3) and March 23, 2027, at 9 p.m. (Round 4). The official listing gives these hours but does not expressly state a time-zone designation; applicants should confirm directly and submit early. Applications filed after a review cutoff may be considered in the following round, provided funds and rounds remain available.
Additional restrictions and submission
Organizations funded in one round cannot receive funding in consecutive review rounds. A prior award recipient must show that its prior grant funds were spent before further disbursement. The controlling City guidance does not publish a universal required cash-matching percentage or a reimbursement-only rule for this program; applicants should rely on their individual grant agreement and City portal for specific payment conditions. Final reporting is due two weeks after the applicable funded program period ends. The City may stop accepting applications earlier if money runs out.
