Opportunity Overview
Maine Early Childhood Outdoors (MaineECO) is accepting 2026 Gear Mini Grant applications from licensed Maine early childhood programs to increase children’s safe, comfortable access to outdoor learning.
Funding and Deadline
Awards range from $1,000 to $2,000 based on program size: $1,000 for 0–12 students, $1,500 for 13–49 students, and $2,000 for 50+ students. Applications are accepted through September 25, 2026. The controlling official page does not publish an exact closing time or time zone, and Atlas does not infer one.
Eligibility
Applicants must apply on behalf of a licensed early childhood program in Maine and have a current OCFS Childcare License number. MaineECO’s current FAQ says applicants must not have received a MaineECO Gear Grant in school years 2024, 2025, and 2026. The linked 2026 application separately says recipients in 2024 or 2025 should wait to re-apply. Atlas preserves that wording difference and requires re-verification for any prior recipient before applicant-specific work. Public PreK classrooms within public schools are not eligible for this program.
Eligible Costs
Grant funds are for a program gear library and may support clothing that directly enables children to participate safely and comfortably in outdoor learning, including rain gear, boots, snow gear, mittens, and similar apparel. Backpacks, water bottles, strollers, toys, and gear given directly to individual families are not eligible.
Atlas Assessment
Atlas Opportunity Score: 48/100. This is a legitimate Maine early-childhood education and child-wellness funding opportunity with a clear licensed-program eligibility framework, but the award size is small and it is outside Atlas’s core healthcare funding focus.
N9+ Fit Score: 0/100. The program funds outdoor apparel and gear rather than clinical, telehealth, diagnostic, or remote-care capability.
Dr. Miltie direct-vendor fit: 0/100.
Next Action
Keep the opportunity published while open. Before any applicant-specific outreach, verify current OCFS licensure, confirm the program is not disqualified by prior MaineECO funding under the controlling current rule, recheck the official application status and deadline, and apply CRM, opt-out, deduplication, and Atlas_Email_Queue controls. Do not create or send outreach merely to test the shared email processor.
