Maine DOE Wabanaki Studies Indigenous Literature Grant Program
Maine DOE has launched a current reimbursement opportunity to expand and strengthen Wabanaki Studies instruction by helping eligible Maine school entities purchase qualifying Indigenous-authored books.
Funding
Eligible school entities may receive up to $500 toward qualifying book purchases.
Eligibility
Eligible school entities include Maine school administrative units (SAUs), private schools approved for public tuition purposes, Indian Education Schools, and Education in Unorganized Territories (EUT) schools.
Eligible purchases
Books must align with Maine DOE Wabanaki Studies resources and be written by an Indigenous author. Eligible school entities may choose where to purchase the books.
Reimbursement and timing
After purchasing eligible books, school entities may receive the first half of reimbursement. To receive the second half, they must complete two approved dissemination or professional-learning activities and submit evidence to Maine DOE, with receipts submitted according to the Department’s instructions. Maine DOE lists target quarterly submission deadlines of September 30, December 31, and March 31. Submissions outside those windows are reviewed on a rolling basis. The Department does not state a final program closing date or closing time, so Atlas does not infer one.
Atlas assessment
Atlas Opportunity Score: 64/100. This is a current, authoritative Maine-only school funding/reimbursement opportunity with clear eligibility and implementation requirements, but the $500 ceiling and books-only scope limit overall funding impact.
N9+ Fit Score: 0/100. This is an Indigenous literature and curriculum-support initiative, not a healthcare technology or clinical-services opportunity. Atlas does not force an N9+ angle.
Dr. Miltie direct-vendor fit: 0/100. Although school entities may choose where to purchase eligible books, Dr. Miltie is not a relevant book vendor and there is no legitimate direct-vendor pathway.
