Opportunity Overview
The Maine Community Foundation 2026 Land for Communities grant program supports projects that increase relationships to land and/or water for underserved geographies and populations in Maine. Qualifying projects must be located in Maine, expand access to land and/or water for an underserved geography or population, focus on land return to Wabanaki Nations or Wabanaki led organizations and/or land for food, and meaningfully engage the people served in project design, delivery, evaluation, or leadership.
Funding and Deadline
Land acquisition and protection projects may request up to $50,000. Other qualifying land based projects may request up to $25,000. Applications for the current cycle are due September 15, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. MaineCF’s general grant guidelines establish the 11:59 p.m. submission time, but do not publish a time zone, so Atlas does not infer one.
Eligibility
MaineCF’s general competitive grant eligibility includes qualifying 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charities, municipalities, public schools, Maine public agencies, federally recognized Indian tribal governments or political subdivisions, and groups using an eligible fiscal sponsor. Individuals and for profit businesses are not eligible. Each applicant may submit one application per Land for Communities deadline.
Allowable Project Costs and Requirements
For land acquisition or protection, allowable project costs may include purchase price, closing costs, legal services, surveys, appraisals or value assessments, lease agreements, right of way agreements, and contributions to a stewardship fund. Land based project costs may include infrastructure, convenings, technical assistance, land stewardship, and staff time. Administrative overhead of up to 20 percent of the requested funding may be included.
All applicants must provide a board or advisory committee list. Additional letters are required in certain circumstances, including projects involving schools, tribes, or other partner organizations. Public school or school district applicants must provide a letter from the principal or superintendent agreeing to accept MaineCF grant funds.
Atlas Assessment
Atlas Opportunity Score: 58/100. This is a verified statewide Maine opportunity with meaningful access, food, tribal, and community infrastructure value, but it is not principally a healthcare or clinical technology program.
N9+ Fit Score: 0/100. The program’s land access and land for food purposes do not establish a legitimate role for the Nonagon N9+ device and platform.
QC Healthcare / Dr. Miltie direct vendor fit: 0/100. This is an applicant grant and does not present a current direct vendor pathway for Dr. Miltie or QC Healthcare.
Submission
Applications are submitted through Maine Community Foundation’s online grant system. Applicants should confirm the program criteria, MaineCF general eligibility requirements, required partnership letters where applicable, and all application materials before submission.
