Opportunity Overview
The Kansas Health Foundation (KHF) Kansas Innovation Fund is an active rolling opportunity for eligible Kansas organizations to test genuinely new ideas that improve health, health equity, and the underlying conditions that contribute to poor health outcomes and disparities in Kansas. KHF states that the opportunity remains open until the annual funds for the year are exhausted.
Funding and Timing
Eligible applicants may request up to $5,000 for each approved idea or project. Applications are reviewed monthly, with funding decisions generally made within 12 weeks. There is no fixed closing date published for the current cycle. Atlas therefore treats this as a rolling opportunity while funds remain available and does not invent a deadline, closing time, or time zone.
The current official program page does not state a matching-funds or cost-share requirement.
Who Can Apply
Eligible applicants include qualifying independent Kansas 501(c)(3) organizations, government entities, and churches that meet the Foundation's tax-status requirements. KHF excludes supporting organizations described under Section 509(a)(3) and private foundations. Fiscal sponsorships are not permitted. Funded activities must take place in Kansas or directly benefit Kansans.
An organization may receive only one Kansas Innovation Fund award per year. The proposed work must be a new project, not existing operations or programming.
Current Strategic Priority
KHF evaluates proposed projects against its strategic framework and currently identifies Upward Mobility as a priority. Applicants should clearly explain how the new idea advances health and well-being in Kansas and, where applicable, how it aligns with current KHF priorities.
Eligible and Ineligible Uses
The fund is designed for small-scale testing of innovative ideas. Current KHF examples include projects addressing pediatric anxiety, food access, and financial or legal barriers that affect health. KHF does not fund individuals, capital campaigns or endowments, debt retirement, duplicate funding, or existing operations and programming through this opportunity.
Application Readiness
Applications are submitted through the online form linked from the official program page. KHF requires the applicant's IRS determination letter and an authorized signatory. The authorized signatory may be the organization's CEO, President, Executive Director, or a School District Superintendent, as applicable.
Atlas Analysis
Atlas Opportunity Score: 66/100. This is a useful low-dollar innovation pathway for Kansas organizations with a genuinely new health-related project. N9+ Fit: 15/100 conditional. The award ceiling makes a meaningful N9+ deployment unlikely unless a device or platform is only one modest, defensible component of an otherwise eligible applicant-led innovation project. Ordinary initial outreach must not introduce or sell N9+. QC Healthcare Fit: low and project-dependent. Direct Vendor Fit: 0/100. Dr. Miltie is not treated as an eligible direct applicant under the published applicant structure.
Next Action
Eligible Kansas organizations should confirm that the proposed work is a genuinely new project rather than existing operations, verify tax-status eligibility, define a concrete Kansas health benefit, document alignment with current KHF priorities where relevant, and apply while annual funds remain available.
